SACREY, Derrick Calvin Sacrey
December 14, 1954 - July 5, 2026A man defined by his quiet strength, remarkable generosity, and deep devotion to his family, Derrick Sacrey, 71, passed away on July 5th, 2026. Born on December 4th, 1954, Derrick leaves behind a legacy of hard work and kindness.
Derrickβs work ethic was the cornerstone of the life he built. Leaving Newfoundland as a young man to forge a future in Ontario, he was never afraid of hard work. He worked a variety of jobs, ranging from maintenance at Fort Wellington to the big ships on the St. Lawrence Seaway, until finding a permanent career with the Upper Canada District School Board. Recognizing it as a way to secure a stable foundation for the people he loved, he dedicated over 30 years there, rising to head custodian and continually expanding his knowledge. Even in retirement he worked with Marguerita Residence Corporation, he enjoyed helping the seniors in any way he could. Derrick was an incredibly hard-working man who did whatever it took to provide for his family. For him, the ultimate reward of all that hard work was simply having his family near him; he loved nothing more than a full house and felt most at peace when surrounded by the people he held dear.
Derrick Calvin Sacrey found his greatest peace and joy outdoors. He loved being on the water, whether spending cherished time at Charleston Lake and Hogback Island, casting a line out fishing, or spending time hunting. He also took immense pride and pleasure in the time spent at the Redneck Sugar Shack, sharing hard work, great stories, and countless laughs making maple syrup alongside two of his closest friends, Russell and Brian. Above all, Derrick was known for his remarkable heart; he loved helping people and was always the first to lend a hand to anyone in need.
He was predeceased by his beloved father, Augustus, whom he held incredibly close to his heart; his parents-in-law, Tammo and Audrey Hazelaar; his brother, Brian; and his son, Travis.
He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Annie, and his wife, Debbie; his sons, Gus and Greg; and his stepchildren, Christine (Christopher) and Andrew (Alisa). He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Tori, Jacob, Cameron, Charles, and Elliott, as well as his cherished great-granddaughter, Nora.
He is also survived by his siblings, Nina (Clarence), Raymond (Lily), Edward (Ester), Dorothy (Henry), Allan, Christopher (Roxanne), and Nichole (Peter); alongside his extended family, Gay Ratcliffe, Heidi Cornell (Bill), Diana Hazelaar (Ron), and Rick Hazelaar (Colleen).
Derrick’s memory will be held close by his numerous nieces, nephews, and very dear friends. He shared a unique and profound bond with his nephew, Cody, and leaves behind his youngest brother and closest friend, Corey (Kristy), both of whom will miss him deeply.
