PRIMEAU, Michael Daniel Primeau

He passed away peacefully with family around him on Saturday, July 11, 2026. He will be missed by his wife of 60 years Peggy, and his four children Michelle Smith (Hamlin), Keith (Lisa), Wendy Smith (Derrick), and Wayne (Leanne). Mike’s 14 grandchildren will cherish their many memories of him at the cottage, at sporting events, or at one of many family functions – Carter Smith, Evan Smith, Corey Primeau (Bryanna), Kylie Hopkins (Rick), Chayse Primeau (Margaret), Cayden Primeau, Dalton Smith (Holly), Jordyn Smith (Mhsoud), Tyler Smith, Kyle Smith, Blake Smith, Mason Primeau, Madison Primeau, and Manning Primeau. He was also blessed to have 7 great-grandchildren (Hudsyn, Henley, and Haisley Primeau, Kenna Hopkins, Lane Primeau, Calla and Monroe Smith).

Michael Daniel Primeau is predeceased by his parents Joseph Armoney and Ann Florence (Merchand), his older brothers Raphael (Ray) and Albert (Ab), and his sister-in-laws Marian Primeau and Linda Hickson. He leaves behind a large extended family including his sister-in-law Ann Primeau, his brother-in-law Gary Hickson, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bob and Diane MacNair, and many nieces and nephews who he loved to spend time with at the cottage playing horseshoes and euchre.

Beyond his family, Mike was active in the community. He coached minor hockey for over 20 years and minor lacrosse for several years. Mike was inducted into the Whitby Sports Hall of Fame in 2017. Mike volunteered for many organizations over the years, he was proud to have been the President of the Markham Rotary Club and he enjoyed giving back to the Whitby Sports Hall of Fame as a committee member.

Mike followed in his father’s and his brother Ab’s footsteps by working for Ontario Hydro (Hydro One) for over 25 years. He did his electrical apprenticeship with them before moving on to GE and then co-owned a hydro company (Orton High Voltage). He eventually returned to Ontario Hydro where he was the Maintenance Superintendent at the Pickering Transformer Station. He loved taking his kids to the shop and sharing that experience with them.

Donations can be made in Mike’s memory to the Durham Region Alzheimer’s Society or to a charity of your choice.
