SCHOONJANS, Carol Bongers – Schoonjans

Peacefully, surrounded by loving family on Thursday, August 6, 2026, Carol Bongers-Schoonjans passed away at London Health Sciences Centre – Victoria Hospital at the age of 76. Cherished wife of Daniel Schoonjans. Loving mother of Shelley (Jeff) Canty and Tracey Connors. Treasured grandmother of Joel, Justin and Jack Canty and Alex Connors. Beloved friend and ex-wife of Herman Bongers. Dear sister of Sharon Tofflemire. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Max and Evelyn Laur, brother Michael Laur and sister Bonnie Zavitz. Carol studied Accounting at Lambton College, after which she became a dedicated employee of Polycoat. She loved bingo, playing cards, knitting, ceramic work, and camping at Paradise Valley. Carol volunteered for VON and made the best homemade fudge. She will be deeply missed by all those whose lives she touched. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to a Charity of your choice (cheques only at the funeral home please).
