DOUGAN, Ada Helen 'Joy' (née Simpson) - (February 28, 1921 – September 26, 2015)
Joy died peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday 26, 2015 at Arbour Trails Retirement Community, Guelph.
Joy was predeceased by her beloved Johnny (2009) and was the much loved mother of Jane (Peter), grandmother of Emma, and auntie Joy to Jill, Karina, Edwina, Sharon, Nola, Amanda and Judy and their families. Fondly remembered by Christopher Radford (Teresa).
Joy grew up on the Thames, served throughout WWII, and emigrated with Johnny to Winnipeg and new adventures in 1948. A proud Actonite since 1972, Joy was a lifelong volunteer and skilled craftswoman,
avid reader and CBC-radio devotee, usually with a family dog at her side and her lipstick and face-power at the ready.
She charmed all and sundry with her warmth, humour and joie de vivre every step of the way, right up to the day she died.
And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year:
“Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.”
And he replied:
“Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God.
That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.”

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 5th at St. Alban the Martyr Anglican Church, 19 St. Alban’s Drive, Acton, Ontario from ten o’clock until the funeral service which will be conducted by the Rev. Brian Galligan at eleven o’clock. Arrangements entrusted with the McKinnon funeral home, 55 Mill Street, Acton, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dr. John Dougan Centre for Mental Health Promotion, 19 Willow Street North, Acton, ON L7J 1H1 would be appreciated by the family.
