TAYLOR, Alexander (Alex) William Maccombe Taylor - Passed away on December 18, 2023 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, due to complications from dementia and parkinsonism.
Alex always felt a strong attachment to three cultures. He was born on June 1, 1941, in Simla, India. His father was in British army and was stationed there.
From his early years there and in New Delhi, Alex developed his taste for strong colours, and for curries and all types of spicy foods.
In 1947, his father was decommissioned and returned to Canada with Alex. They moved around between Toronto and Lancaster ON and Montreal PQ before settling in Nova Scotia, first in Halifax and then in St Margaret’s Bay area.
Nova Scotia has always been Alex’s where he felt “home”. The third was his Scottish heritage. He was very proud to be born into the Cameron Clan and wore his full kilt and with great joy. And of course, he was a big fan of bagpipe music, and scotch.
In 1996, he and his wife and mother-in-law moved to Oshawa. He was one of the Founding Members of the Probus Club of Oshawa in 2004 and for many years loved being their “audio guy”. He greatly enjoyed social events with Probus as well as a member of the Oshawa Naval Club and the 420 Wing.
He leaves his wife, Maria (Ria) de Jong, and long-time friends here and in Nova Scotia.
Alex wished his remains to be released in Nova Scotia.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Oshawa in the spring .
