Bruce Knyvet Arlidge
May 28, 1930 – April 4, 2025
Bruce Arlidge, aged 94, of Whitby, via Victoria, B.C., passed away on April 4, 2025, with family and fantastic caregivers by his side.
Born on May 28, 1930, in Edmonton, Alberta, Bruce began his career as a lawyer in Nelson and Victoria, B.C., before transitioning into the world of academia, teaching at the University of Ottawa. During his retirement years, he found great joy in reading, walking, gardening, and travelling. He and his beloved wife RoseMarie ran a successful Bed and Breakfast in Victoria, B.C.
Predeceased by RoseMarie (née Chisholm) in 2011, Bruce later returned to Victoria, and eventually settled in Ontario, where he spent his final years. He is survived by his six children: Ross (Janine), Jennifer (Hal), Paul (Ingela), Gillian (Rick), Susan (Greg), and Colin (Trish); fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, scattered across the globe.
A man with a wry sense of humor and a fondness for cheeky limericks, Bruce was always ready with a toast at family dinners. His quick wit and deep love for his family will be warmly remembered.
A private family memorial service will be held in British Columbia this summer.
The family is eternally grateful to the compassionate caregivers at The Village of Taunton Mills (Egerton), who treated Bruce with dignity and showered him with love over the last three years.
God speed, Bruce. If we could think of an appropriate limerick, we would include one here—though most would be just irreverent enough to have him chuckling.
Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Oshawa Funeral Home.
