Smiling man in autumn forest

David George Axhorn

December 17, 1937 – April 10, 2025

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of David George Axhorn at the age of 87, following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He passed peacefully at the Oakridges Hospice in Port Perry with family by his side.

David is survived by his loving wife and life partner of 66 years, Margaret Axhorn. Together for 69 years, they built a beautiful life and home in Brooklin, Ontario, raised their family, and lived their dreams.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter Sherry Izzett (Dan), son Shawn Axhorn (Bree), and grandchildren Stephanie (Jordan), Tiana (Jacob), Ethan, Alaina, and Marissa. He was a proud great-grandfather to Mason, Elias, and Violet. David is also survived by his brothers Peter (Pat) and Andrew (Nora); brother-in-law John Hawley; sister-in-law Doris Mills; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins in England.

Predeceased by his infant daughter Christine, parents Albert and Beatrice Axhorn, brother Albert (Colleen), and parents-in-law Fred and Beatrice Hawley.

David immigrated to Canada from England in 1952. A dedicated Tool and Die Maker, he worked for 34 years at General Motors of Canada. A lover of the outdoors, David cherished time fishing and camping across Canada, especially his treasured trips to PEI with dear friends Bobby and Joanne Doucette.

In retirement, David pursued his passion for woodworking, creating furniture pieces crafted with care and precision for his family. His courage throughout his 46-year battle with bladder cancer was nothing short of inspiring. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Mathur, Dr. Broomfield, Dr. Kaye, Dr. Libby, Dr. Doobay, St. Elizabeth Nursing, Paramed Nursing, the cancer care drivers, and the staff and volunteers of Oakridges Hospice for their outstanding care and support.

At David’s request, there will be no formal funeral. A celebration of life will be held on:

Saturday, April 19, 2025
3:00 PM – 6:00 PM

28 Old Kingston Road, Pickering Village
