Eugene Yaroslaw Barna

February 5, 1930 - February 17, 2025

Eugene Yaroslaw Barna was born in Harrow, ON, on February 5, 1930. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on February 17, 2025, at Ed’s House Hospice, shortly after celebrating his 95th birthday.

Predeceased by his beloved wife, Marie (Coughtrey), with whom he shared over 60 years of love and partnership.
He was a devoted father to the late Peter (late Jeannine), Jean (Kip), Paul, the late Robert, David (Joanne), Terry (Sharon), Kevin, and Debra (Bob).
He was also a cherished father-in-law to Stella Barna and Karen Barna.

Eugene was a proud grandfather to Zachary, Ashley (Nick), Jessica, Natasha, Jaryd, Jacklyn, Kalvin, Anton, Marena, and Ryan,
and a loving great-grandfather to Emersyn (Ashley and Nick).

He was the son of Anna and Ivan Barna, brother to Bodhan, and uncle to John, Dan, Bill, and Patty.

Eugene was an active member of the Leamington community throughout his life. He dedicated over 50 years to the Boy Scouts and Scouting movement,
earning the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award for his contributions. He was a strong advocate for Camp Henry and took great pride in his Ukrainian heritage,
hosting a multicultural show on CHYR radio. He also played a role in the Leamington Centennial planning committee and was eagerly anticipating the 150th anniversary celebration.

His career included time at H. J. Heinz before transitioning to real estate, where he worked well into his eighties, always enjoying the opportunity to help others.
Eugene’s deep love for Leamington was recognized through various community awards.

Eugene had a passion for farming, gardening, and cooking, always preferring homemade meals made from fresh ingredients, including his signature garlic-infused dishes.
He and Marie loved spending time in the kitchen, preparing meals for their family.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to the team at Ed’s House Hospice for their compassionate care of Eugene.

Cremation has taken place, with a private family service at Lakeview Cemetery to follow.
