Donald (Don) Bedford

1942 ~ December 6, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald (Don) Bedford, aged 82, on December 6, 2024, at Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg, with his family by his side. Don was a devoted husband to his beloved late wife Donna for over 51 years. He was a loving father to Randy and the late Cindy, and a proud Papa to Kyle, Joey, Sarah, Torey, and Great Papa to Haylie and Colton.

A printer by trade, Don joined the North York Fire Department in 1970, where he served for 25 years. Known as a reliable and respected firefighter, Don was also a great friend, admired for his strength of mind and body. He cherished the deep friendships he formed with his fellow firefighters, including his two best friends, Paul and Al.

Don was an excellent athlete in his youth, excelling in baseball, football, and hockey. He was celebrated for pitching a no-hitter at a CNE tournament, quarterbacking his high school football team, and showcasing his skills as a hockey player. As an adult, Don was an avid fan of the Toronto Argonauts and the Toronto Maple Leafs, most recently enjoying the Argos' Grey Cup victory.

One of Don’s greatest passions was his love for animals, particularly his dogs. Known as the "Dogfather," he cared deeply for Sable, the late Sage, and numerous other rescue dogs, providing them with loving homes. He also shared his home with a beloved cat named Stormy and patiently accommodated other pets for the sake of his family.

Don’s life was centered on others, whether it was his family, friends, or pets. In keeping with his wishes, no funeral will be held. To honor his memory, donations to any local dog rescue organization would be greatly appreciated.

“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” – Christopher Reeve
