Georgije Blanusa

April 30, 1937 – February 24, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Georgije Blanusa at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Monday, February 24, 2025, in his 88th year. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. Georgije was born on April 30, 1937, in Yugoslavia, and immigrated to Canada with his wife Stanija and their sons Ilija and Goran in 1976.

Georgije was a devoted husband to Stanija (née Lukic), with whom he shared 67 years of marriage. He will be fondly remembered by his children, Ilija and Goran (Kim), as well as his cherished granddaughter Isabelle.

Georgije faced numerous hardships throughout his life. During World War II, he lost his father and younger brother and was separated from his family. In recent years, he battled Alzheimer's dementia. These experiences instilled in him strength and determination, driving him to start his trade apprenticeship at the age of 15. Georgije met Stanija in 1958 and immediately knew they were meant to be together. His past family separation made him resolute in never being apart from the family he created. When considering immigration to Canada, despite advice to go alone initially, he insisted on taking his family with him, resolved to succeed or fail together.

Known for his versatility, Georgije handled all tasks around the house and was always willing to teach and assist his sons and others in need. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always ready to provide guidance, mentorship, and encouragement.

Georgije and Stanija enjoyed camping while their sons were young, and later the two of them traveled to various destinations in Europe, Canada, and the Caribbean. Georgije cherished life to the fullest with his family and friends.

Georgije was predeceased by his parents, Ilija Blanusa and Vidosava Jelenkovic, and his younger brother, Milenko.

Special thanks are extended to the Palliative Care Team at Lakeridge Health Oshawa Hospital. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
