Ruth Boland

May 5, 1932 - November 22, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Boland (née Fodor), who died peacefully at the age of 92 in Bowmanville, Ontario, after a year-long battle with cancer.

Ruth was the beloved wife of Lyle, who survives her, and mother of daughters Ann (Ralph) and Susan (Brooks). She was the cherished Nana to granddaughter Kristen. Ruth was also the much-loved “Auntie Ruth” to her nieces Joan, Judy, Kathy, and Pamela, and their families, whom she felt blessed to have kept in close touch with throughout the years.

Born in North Bay, Ontario, Ruth was the youngest of four children. The baby of the family, she was known for her mischief, independence, and innate sense of humor. These traits endeared her to all who knew her.

Ruth and Lyle's love story began when she was just 14 and he was an 18-year-old taxi driver. Their paths crossed again at a local drug store where Ruth worked in her late teens, and soon after, they began dating. Married on May 22, 1954, they shared over 70 years together, building a family and a home filled with love and memories.

Ruth was a loving mother who supported her daughters in all their endeavors and celebrated their accomplishments. She especially adored her granddaughter Kristen and delighted in their shared moments. A follower of fashion, she was famous for her thoughtful gifts of clothing for her daughters and granddaughter.

Ruth remained an avid follower of current events, politics, and global affairs throughout her life. Even in her final weeks, she kept up with the news to stay informed.

Ruth was a friend to many and cherished for her thoughtful perspectives, listening ear, and infectious laughter. She will be remembered fondly by all who knew her as a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.

As per Ruth’s wishes, there will be no funeral. She will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with immediate family members. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements entrusted to Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, 53 Division Street, Bowmanville.
