Hendrika Johanna Ria Bouius

1946 – 2024

Hendrika (Ria) Bouius passed suddenly but peacefully into glory to be with her Saviour Jesus Christ on December 26, 2024. Her best friend and beloved husband of 54 years, Rudi, was at her side.

Ria was born in Holten, Netherlands, daughter of the late Arend and Jane Schipper. She immigrated to Canada at the age of 5, settling in the St. Thomas area. Ria studied to become a registered nurse at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital.

Rudi and Ria met at church and were married in 1970. Together, they were founding members of Fellowship CRC and active members of The Junction Church and the Cambodian Fellowship. Their home was always open to family, friends, and strangers, and they made it a point to stay connected with loved ones near and far.

Ria’s faith and love for her Lord were evident in her many acts of service. She was a devoted mother, an avid reader, and a kind friend to many. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, and servant heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Family will receive visitors at Shawn Jackson Funeral Home, 31 Elgin St., St. Thomas, on Wednesday, January 1st, 2025, from 2–4 PM and 7–9 PM. The funeral service will take place at The Junction Church, 320 Elm St., on Thursday, January 2nd, 2025, at 11 AM, with an additional visitation at the church from 10–10:45 AM. Interment will follow at Elmdale Memorial Park Cemetery. The service will also be livestreamed. Condolences can be shared at www.sjfh.ca.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ria's memory to The Junction Church or another charity of your choice.
