James Russell Bricker

May 1, 1961 - December 10, 2024

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Jamie Bricker. Jamie was a devoted family man, a loving husband to his wife Carol, and the very proud father of Jordan (Brittany) and Ryan (Alexandra). Jamie enjoyed spending time with his sisters, Mary Anne and Laurie (Maurice), and brother, David. He was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Lucy.

For 30 years, Jamie was a teacher and administrator in a variety of schools within the Durham District School Board. He was a strong advocate for student success and created positive, supportive, and collegial school environments that focused on student learning.

Jamie was a strong believer in community activism. He was very involved in youth sports, coaching his sons in both hockey and soccer for much of their childhood. He also tutored adult learners and most recently became a driver for Meals on Wheels.

In retirement, Jamie continued to be a lifelong educator. He wrote, presented, and podcasted about topics related to teaching and learning, with a particular focus on parental advocacy in education and educational leadership.

Jamie will be dearly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SickKids Foundation in Jamie’s memory. Donations can be made online at SickKids Foundation.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Jamie’s honour at the end of January, with more details to follow.
