The land for this cemetery was sold to the Wesleyan Methodist Church in 1847. The earliest recorded burial, however, was in 1830. The last recorded burial was in 1906. The Pioneer Cemetery was originally located to the east of Oshawa Harbour on property once owned by Lyman Gifford, a former mayer of Oshawa. Many of the original settlers and their families were buried there, including Benjamin Wilson, the first settler in this area. IN 1975 the cemetery was transferred to city-owned land at Bonnie Brae Point. Unfortunately, when the move took place, Benjamin Wilson's tombstone disappeared and has not been recovered.Directions to CemeteryLot 5 Concession BF of the city of Oshawa, at the Port of Oshawa.
