It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Walter Lawrence Casselman at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the age of 80. Walter was surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness.
Walter was the beloved husband of Diane (née Peyton) for 49 wonderful years. He was a devoted father to Patricia Casselman and Dale (Lisa) and a cherished Grandpa to Mycala and Sullivan. He is survived by his brother Norman and predeceased by his sisters Karen Casselman and Sandra Johnston (John).
Walter was a dear brother-in-law to Francis (Alice), Donna Rowe (Eric), Evangeline Benson (Allan), Brian, Brenda Caines (Guy), Gary (Geraldine), Denise Owens (Trevor), and Dennis (Rowena). He was predeceased by his brothers-in-law Ivan Roberts and Paul Peyton. He will also be lovingly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews, many of whom reside in Newfoundland.
Walter lived a life of service and passion. He was a longtime member of the Independent Order of Foresters and was recognized in 1996 as Volunteer of the Year. He coached ladies' softball in Peterborough for over 30 years, served as trainer for the Junior B Pete’s, and was an avid bowler and member of the Peterborough Horseshoe Club. A dedicated volunteer with Canadian Blood Services, Walter donated over 100 pints of blood. A staunch Montreal Canadiens fan, Walter found joy in spending time with his family and friends, particularly at Pineaires Resort on Sandy Lake, Buckhorn.
Visitation will be held at Highland Park Funeral Centre on Wednesday, November 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a funeral service in the Highland Chapel at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow the service, with interment at Rosemount Memorial Gardens.
In memory of Walter, donations to Jumpstart would be greatly appreciated by his family.
