Charles Ferguson Cattran

July 24, 1929 - April 20, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Charles (Chuck) Ferguson Cattran on Sunday, April 20, 2025. Charles was born on July 24, 1929, in Akron, Ohio. His parents, Charles and Effie, moved shortly after his birth to Bowmanville, where he called home for almost 96 years.

Chuck was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lois (nee Fisher), and his brothers John and Doug. He is survived by his brother Dan (Heather), his son Charlie (Joyce), daughters Jane (Dan) and Pam (Chris), six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

A trailblazer in his family, Chuck was the first Cattran to attend university, graduating in Dentistry in 1953. He practiced in Bowmanville for over four decades and played a pivotal role in launching the Bowmanville Professional Building at 222 King St East. Even after his dental career, Chuck remained active by managing the professional building for 20 years and oversaw its second expansion before fully retiring at 83.

Chuck embraced life with a contagious optimism, famously saying, “don’t worry about something until there was something to worry about.” A true sports enthusiast, he was always active—skiing, golfing, swimming, and enjoying time at the cottage. He learned kayaking at 75 and joined a gym at 80, embodying a vibrant and adventurous spirit throughout his life.

His commitment to community service was unwavering. Chuck was a long-time Kinsman and later a dedicated member of the Rotary Club for over 40 years. He served as president of the Bowmanville Rotary Club during 1994–1995 and was honored with the Paul Harris Fellow award three times. His was truly a life well lived.
