SINCLAIR, Charles Moncrief -
December 1, 1936 – September 5, 2023
Charlie started his career with the Toronto Fire Department on May 13, 1963, and retired on April 23, 1998.
Charlie was promoted to Captain of Rescue 1, District Chief 41, and finally Platoon Chief on A2 Platoon.
Charlie was predeceased by his first wife, Marion Sinclair; and his daughter, Cindy Kaufman.
He was also predeceased by his wife, Doris DeCunha Sinclair. During his career with the Toronto Fire Department, Charlie fell through a burning roof, broke his back and spent a year in a full body cast. He also lost a part of his lungs.
As a result of his injuries and his fire fighting career, Charlie suffered from COPD, and eventually lung cancer. Late in life, in June of 2003, he married Doris Anne Decunha.
Both Doris and Charlie shared a passion for golf. They were members of Credit Valley Golf and Country Club in Mississauga, and spent their winters golfing in Apopka, Florida, where they were both members of Erroll Estates Golf and Country Club.
Doris came from a large family, and Charlie was promptly adopted as Grandpa Chuck. The next 20 odd years were a very happy time for both Chuck and Doris, filled with much love, laughter and happiness – all squeezed in between their golf rounds.
Doris passed away in October of 2022.
Charlie was very despondent and depressed. He finally succumbed to the two demons that had plagued him throughout his retirement years - COPD and Lung Cancer.
Rest in peace Charlie. Those who are loved never die. A memorial service will be held at Kane-Jarrett Funeral Home, 8088 Yonge Street, Thornhill, on Monday, the 18th of September. Visitation for friends and family is at 10:00 a.m., with a formal Fire Fighters funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Scarborough, immediately following the service.
