Robert James Gordon Cole
1941 – 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Robert "Bob" James Gordon Cole, aged 83, at his home in Galt, Cambridge, on November 24, 2024. Bob was born in 1941 to Gordon and Alma Cole in Galt, Ontario, and led a remarkable life filled with dedication to his community and family.
A graduate of Galt Collegiate and Vocational Institute, Bob honed his technical and architectural drafting skills. He built a successful career working with the City of Kitchener, the University of Waterloo, and Union Gas Ltd., where he became a department supervisor during his 25+ years of service. Following his retirement, Bob spent an additional 19 years as a shuttle bus operator for Bennett Chevrolet Oldsmobile.
Bob’s contributions to hockey in Cambridge were immense. He was a founding member of the Galt Minor Hockey Association and Learn to Skate program, coached tier-3 hockey clinics, and was instrumental in scouting young goaltenders for Canada’s World Junior Teams during the 1980s and 1990s. A longstanding volunteer and board member of the Cambridge Winterhawks (now Redhawks), Bob’s dedication to the sport spanned over 30 years.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Margaret Elizabeth Cole (née McLellan), and his cherished daughter Tracy Lynn. His legacy of hard work, kindness, and community involvement will forever be remembered by all who knew him.
