Joseph Paul Collins

April 24, 1943 – April 27, 2025

It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of Paul Collins, who left us peacefully on April 27, 2025, at the age of 82. Surrounded by the love of his family, Paul lived a life rich in devotion, laughter, and unwavering support for those he held dear.

Born in Campbellford, Ontario, Paul was the beloved son of Joseph and Marguerite Collins. He shared his early years and fond memories with siblings Connie Phillips (late Frank), the late Barbara Hill (late Peter), the late Elizabeth Dallaire (late Bert), and the late Shirley Collins. Paul had a special gift for storytelling, a sharp sense of humor, and a laugh that was truly contagious.

He shared 58 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Dawna Collins. Together, they built a loving home in Oshawa, raising three children—Scott Collins (Tracy), Julie Pickell (Jeff), and Lisa Wight (Troy)—and supporting every milestone in their lives. Paul's heart belonged to his six grandchildren: Jack and Emerson Collins, Carson and Ben Pickell, and Owen and Chloe Wight. To them, he was “Papa,” ever-present at games and events, and always ready with his “ATM” pocket of coins for post-game treats.

Paul dedicated his working years to his trade as a tool and die maker, first at Westclox in Peterborough and later at General Motors in Oshawa. Known for his skill, work ethic, and attention to detail, Paul’s talents extended beyond his trade—his hands could build nearly anything, but it was his love that built the foundation of his family.

His joys extended to hunting, classic cars—especially his beloved “Judge” GTO—and time spent on his Harley. Paul was an old soul with a youthful spark, often listening to favorite tunes with a glimmer in his eye. He lived fully, loved deeply, and laughed freely.

Visitation will be held at the Courtice Funeral Chapel, 1587 Highway #2, Courtice, on Thursday, May 1, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., and again on Friday, May 2, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 10:30 a.m. A celebration of Paul’s life will follow immediately, also at Courtice Funeral Chapel. Interment to take place at Ebenezer Cemetery, Courtice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Durham Regional Cancer Centre – Lakeridge Health Corporation in Paul's memory.

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Courtice Funeral Chapel.
