August 25, 1979 – January 15, 2025
In Loving Memory
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sergeant Greg O’Connor, who passed away suddenly from a pulmonary embolism on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the young age of 45.
Greg was born in North Bay and grew up alongside many lifelong childhood friends, where he discovered a strong passion for hockey and community early in life. In 2002, Greg moved to Bowmanville, where he began an accomplished 23-year career with the Durham Regional Police Service. He was deeply committed to his community and took pride in his role as a trainer for the Clarington Toros, supporting his children and their teams for many years.
The most important part of Greg’s life was his family. He was a devoted and loving husband to Laurie and the world’s greatest father to his children, Declan and Danica. He will forever be cherished as the beloved son of Greg Sr. and Betty O’Connor and a dedicated brother to Kris/Reg (partner Tasha) and Casey. He will also be lovingly remembered as a remarkable son-in-law to John and Dorothy Kenerknecht and the most supportive brother-in-law to John, Ranny, Kevin, and Sarah. Greg’s nieces Chloe, Layla, and Georgia, and his nephew Sam, will carry fond memories of their uncle.
Greg will be deeply missed by his extended family, many friends, and the close-knit community of his neighborhood, colleagues, and loved ones in North Bay. Known for his love of the Washington Capitals, kayak fishing, boating, campfires at the cottage, and cherished time spent with family, Greg’s memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and adored him.
The love and support from the entire community, including the Durham Regional Police Service, have been invaluable to Greg’s family as they navigate life without their hero. He was a man who saved lives, brought joy, and was always ready to help anyone in need. Greg’s laughter, kindness, and dedication to those he loved will never be forgotten.
