RODIN, David -
November 26, 1966 - November 7, 2023
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of David Leif Rodin. David died unexpectedly from a heart attack, at his home at the age of 56.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, David was the youngest of three children. As a young boy, David was curious and independent.
On weekends, he would catch buses to explore the city's downtown, its department stores, shops and cinemas.
He cherished summers spent at Camp Stephens on Lake-of-the Woods. David moved to Toronto at 19, working briefly at Eaton's before moving on to the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in the Stewarding, department where he worked for 37 years.
He loved downtown Toronto and witnessed its evolution over the years with curiosity.
David had an outstanding memory. He educated himself, studying computers and welding.
His passions included aviation, history, photography and politics.
David was prudent and enjoyed discussing stocks and financial markets.
Cooking lessons from his brother-in-law, Steve, launched David's creativity in the kitchen. David will be fondly remembered for his tender, open-hearted disposition, his love of comedy and laughter, and his zig-zagging stories, prefaced with the words, "what happened was..."
David was predeceased by his father, Edward Rodin; mother, Christine (née Taylor); and his dear sister, Cassie.
David is survived by his sister, Toby Rodin of Victoria, BC. Friends and colleagues are invited to attend a memorial celebration of David's life on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at 290 Roxton Road, Toronto (north of College Street), from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Daily Bread Food Bank (www.dailybread.ca).
