After a courageous 10-year battle with Cancer, Jane (53) passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, surrounded by her family and friends.
Jane leaves behind her beloved wife Anji of 17 years. Dear mother of Dunai, Acacia, and Ethan. Loved GiGi of Mikey. Dear sister of Jim (Kim) and aunt of Lynda (Dane). Lovingly remembered by her mother-in-law Julie and sister-in-law Cathie (Stelios). Sadly missed by her “Nona” Marika, cousin Diane, family in New York and Scotland, and cherished friends Amanda and Erica.
Jane had a huge love for plants, traveling, adventures, and spending time with her large circle of friends and family. She had a dynamic personality, a zest for life, and a smile that could light up a room. Her eyes would glisten from afar, and her real lashes could catch anyone’s attention. Jane saw opportunities to improve lives and was determined to make a difference for others. After her Cancer diagnosis, she became a Champion for the Durham Region Cancer Centre (DRCC) at Lakeridge Health Oshawa and founded the “Better Clinic” to support patients and families throughout their Cancer Journey.
Jane served on the Patient Advisory Committee at LHO and volunteered in the Palliative Care Unit. She and Anji were leaders in fundraising for the Lakeridge Health Foundation, helping to raise over $24 million for the “THIS IS OUR CANCER” campaign in 2023. Jane also led the establishment of a Genealogical Cancer Surgical Unit at LHO for local care. As a strong advocate for the LGBTQ community, Jane was a founding member of “Pride Prom,” ensuring local students had a safe prom experience, and served as a proud local PFLAG Chapter Leader alongside Anji.
The family would like to sincerely thank the outstanding medical support provided by Dr. Li and her nurses Paulette and Amanda, Dr. Niglis, Dr. Go, and their teams at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. Special thanks also go to Dr. Dhani, Dr. Mak, and their team at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The family deeply appreciates Garrett Metcalfe for his dedicated support over the years.
Please join the family to share memories and support during the visitation on Friday, January 10th, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 12th, 2025, at 12:00 noon at Armstrong Funeral Home, followed by a reception at 1:00 PM at The Royal Canadian Legion, 471 Simcoe Street South, Oshawa.
