Harold John Drew

Wednesday, March 9th, 1927 - Tuesday, December 31st, 2024

Harold John Buckingham Drew passed away peacefully at Glen Hill Terrace in Whitby on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2024.

Harold and his loving wife Velma (predeceased) raised five wonderful daughters: Carol, Diane, Brenda, Nancy, and Patty, starting life as a family in Belvedere Heights (Lennoxville, Quebec) before moving to Oshawa. He was predeceased by his parents, John (Jack) and Beatrice, brothers Victor and Jack, and sister Beverly (Conger).

Harold had a deep respect for nature and the environment. One of the great loves of Harold’s life was the log cottage he built, where his daughters and their families created many cherished memories. Harold passed on his love of canoeing and fishing to his children and grandchildren, who enjoyed many wonderful days with him. His strong support for veterans included many years of active involvement in the poppy drive well into his later years. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.

Harold’s five daughters and their families include 11 grandchildren, their spouses, and 14 great-grandchildren: Carol and Mike Pascoe, their daughters Jessica (married Carl, daughter Svea) and Julienne (married Dan, daughters Vera and Frederique); Diane and Phil Martin, their sons Chet (daughter Callia) and Scott (married Amber, son Brady, and daughter Brooks); Brenda and Steve McMurray, their son Dane (married Crystal, daughter Maria, and son Joseph) and daughter Alanna (married Mike, son Liam, and daughter Hailey); Nancy and Loran Prentice, their sons Neil, Jordan (married Ashley, daughters Madi and Kirra), Sean (married Rachel, daughter Brooke), and daughter Jenalee (son Inik); Patty and the late Vic Weatherall and their son Adam.

A private family-only celebration of life is being planned to share the many wonderful memories of Harold’s life.

He is resting at Barnes Memorial in Whitby.
