SMITH, Dorthy Alberta Marie “Dot” Smith, Obituary

Smith DorthyPassed away peacefully at The Wynfield on January 1st, 2016 at the age of 85.

Predeceased by her loving husband and best friend, Stan (2001).

Loving mother of Ronald Fisher (Brigid), Carol LaHaye (Guy) and Linda Lee (Ron).

Dot is survived by her sister, Bea (late Bob).

Dorthy will be missed by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, extended family and other relatives.

She also leaves behind Leonard Fisher (Olga).

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the caring and compassionate staff of the 2nd floor of The Wynfield for taking such good care of Dot and her family.

Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on January 6th from 2:00 p.m. until time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 3:00 p.m.

Dot's final resting place will be with Stan at Thornton Cemetery.

Much loved husband of Sharon (nee Cyncora) for 23 years.

Much loved Dad of Michael and Jeffrey.

Beloved son of Eleanor McLaughlin and the late Donald.

Son-in-law of Benny Cyncora (Alanna).

Pre-deceased by his mother-in-law Arabelle. 

Dear brother of David and his wife Diane and Donald and his wife Marlene.

Brother-in-law of Terry Hillis and Todd Lawrence, Lynn Groome and husband Peter and Robert Cyncora. Ian will be fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews and their families.

Visitation will be held at BARNES MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 5295 Thickson Rd. N Whitby on Wednesday January 6th from 5-8 p.m. 

A service honouring Ian’s life will be held in the Barnes Chapel Thursday January 7th at 12:00 Noon.

LILJELUND, Aili Matilda Liljelund (nee Ahlfors)  - Passed away peacefully at Lakeview Manor, Beaverton, Ontario, on December 31, 2015, at the age of 100.

Born in Espoo, Finland on February 21, 1915, beloved wife of Ralph Johan Herman Liljelund (pre-deceased 1978 in Sudbury, Ontario).

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her three children, Patricia, Fred and Diana, her daughter-in-law, Julie, her grandson, Michael, as well as numerous cherished relatives and friends in Finland, Canada and the United States.

A family graveside service will be held at Parklawn Cemetery in Sudbury on Thursday, January 14th.

Bill, in his 72nd year, was the loving son of the late Carman Thompson (1999) and Nora Winn (2009).

Dear brother of Marilyn Thompson and her partner Bent Striegler and Robert (Bob) all of Lindsay.

Dearly remembered by his niece Tracy Walton of Hamilton.

MERCIER, Conrad “Joe” Mercier, Obituary

Mercier ConradMERCIER, Conrad “Joe” Mercier - May 8, 1942 – December 31, 2015

Passed away in his sleep on December 31st at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. He was 73.

Joe was born in St. John’s, Antigua on May 8th, 1942 but spent most of his professional life teaching English Literature and Language at Presentation College in San Fernando, Trinidad. 

Joe married Florence Raghunanan on August 17, 1968 in New York before settling in San Fernando, Trinidad where they raised their three children, Aubrey, Marcelle and Duane. In 2011 Joe and Florence migrated to Canada where they joined their children.

Joe is survived by his wife Florence, children, Aubrey, Marcelle and Duane, son-in-law, Ron, daughters-in-law, Suzette and Sharon and grandchildren, Ashleigh and Julian and his sisters Edris Bird and Edith Mercier and many nieces and nephews. 

Joe is predeceased by his sisters Vilma Morrissey, Pam Mercier and Coralie Batie, his brothers, Morris Erskine, Dalmar Mercier, Douglas Mercier and Hubert Mercier.

Visitation will be held at McEACHNIE FUNERAL HOME, 28 Old Kingston Rd, Ajax Ontario, Canada at 10:00 AM on January 14, 2016 with the funeral service commencing at 12:00 PM.  Interment will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery, 1757 Church Street North, Ajax, Ontario, Canada.

The family will host a reception at 2:00 PM at the McEachnie Family Centre, 20 Church Street North, Ajax, Ontario, Canada (adjacent to the Funeral Home) where friends and relatives may share fond memories.

If desired, memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the National Pancreatic Cancer Canada Foundation via their Online Donations form.

A Few Words On the evening of December 31st 2015

On the evening of December 31st 2015, Lynne Rohland passed peacefully in the arms of her soul mate Gary Kaljuvee. 

They were together for thirty-three years here, and continue on in spirit.

Surrounded by her three loving children Sara, Emily and Conner and lifelong best friends, Yvonne, Ed and Elaine.

Lynne was born October 29th, 1962, in Newmarket, Ontario to Margret and Ken Rohland.  Sister to Karyn and Mark. Lynne was always a strong woman from day one. 

Everyone’s lives who Lynne touched were inspired or motivated to be a better person.

Lynne Rohland did not go down without a fight and battled cancer for over ten years with grace and fearlessness. Lynne exceeded expectations, she always stood up for what was right and always finished what she started.

Lynne decided she was going to end 2015 the right way; fighting until the very end and surpassing all odds.

“There’s no crying, there’s no crying in baseball”  (quote from one of Lynne’s fav. movies;  ‘A league of their Own’)

Lynne was a beautiful woman and she would want everyone to enjoy in celebrating her Life.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at the McEACHNIE FUNERAL HOME, 28 Old Kingston Road, Pickering Village (Ajax), 905-428-8488 on Saturday, January 9, 2016 from 4:00 pm till 7:00 pm.
