BOUTCHER, Howard Boutcher – Obituary

Boutcher Howard

BOUTCHER, Howard -  March 30, 1932 - September 13, 2015

Howard was born March 30, 1932 in Spencers Cove, Long Island, in Placentia Bay, Nfld.

Son of Harold and Alice (nee Hollett) Boutcher.

His sister Hazel, 6 years older than himself was the only surviving sibling at the time.

A brother Harvey had died at the age of 12 from a ruptured appendix and 12 month old Mac had died of pneumonia, both before Howard was born.

Howard's mother was the mid-wife in Spencers Cove and although there was a doctor on the Island, she delivered many of the babies.

Howard's uncle Bert Boutcher left Spencers Cove to work in Boston and while there became acquainted with Seventh-Day-Adventists. He believed the Adventist Message and was baptized. He took the Message back to Spencers Cove and his mother and his siblings also believed and were baptized.

There were two churches there already but the Boutcher brothers built a Seventh-Day-Adventist church also. There were several other people that also joined. This all took place before Howard was born.

Howard had a very happy childhood in that beautiful little Cove. When he was about 10 years old  a little sister came into their home named Juanita whom they adopted. When he was 14 he was sent to St. John's to the SDA school for one year and at the age of 16 the family moved to Oshawa.

His sister Hazel was already attending Oshawa Missionary College and he joined her. His father worked in the College Woodwork Shop for many years. His Uncle Steve Boutcher, and wife Hannah and their daughter Emily also moved to Oshawa and Steve also worked at the College Woodwork Shop for many years.

There were two other uncles that moved with their families to Toronto.

At the age of 18 he had a job in Newcastle making silverware boxes. As he was rounding a corner of the box on the machine he cut off the tops of his two middle fingers on his right hand. His sister Hazel had been teaching him piano but the missing finger tips put a stop to that and he started violin lessons with Mr. Radcliffe At Oshawa Missionary College. He went to work at Maracle Press where he worked for about 40 years.

Howard met his wife Jean Munroe at Maracle Press and they were married September 21, 1952 in the little SDA  church on Albert Street in Oshawa.

Their son Gordon was born on their first wedding anniversary. Two and a half years later Wanda came along, and two and a half years after that Allan made his appearance. Almost 6 years later Ronnie came to bless their home along with his brothers and sister.

Howard was deceased by his son Ron on April 8, 2014 and is survived by his wife Jean, sons Gordon and Allan, and daughter Wanda Newman and husband David, grandsons Steven, Nathan and Greg, granddaughters Wanetta, Rhonda and Holly.

Great grandsons Jordan, Tanner and Daniel. Great granddaughters Michaela, Aleanna, Stephanie, Casandra (Cassie) and Trinity. His sister Hazel Hamilton, sister Juanita and husband Alex, 2 nieces Sherry and Shana, and 3 nephews Scott, Bob and Lloyd. There are also great nieces and nephews and many cousins.

September 2012 Howard was diagnosed with two brain tumours. God gave him 3 more years of life and he passed away very peacefully in the Bowmanville hospital September 13, 2015.

He is sleeping until that wonderful day when Jesus calls him from the grave and he will be reunited with his loved ones once again.
