GRAVES, Adam Richard Graves -
November 15, 1987 - April 12, 2024
Beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend, Adam Richard Graves, passed away on 12 April 2024 at the age of 36.
Adam died in Toronto, Canada where he was living with his loving wife Clare and their beautiful 20-month old son, Cayden.
His family and friends are in shock at Adam’s sudden and untimely passing, and grateful to the many people who have expressed their own sadness at this loss.
Hearing happy stories of Adam, sharing special memories and receiving offers of support through this incredibly difficult time have been hugely comforting to Clare and the family. Adam was born on 15 November 1987 in Chester to Ellen and Colin Graves.
He grew up with sister Charlotte in Ellesmere Port and attended The Firs Primary School and Wirral Grammar School.
At school he excelled at English Literature, Music and Media. At Yale College in Wrexham, he started on his path towards a visual effects career, studying A-Levels including Film Studies, Media Studies
and Art, before commencing his degree in Film & Television Studies at Aberystwyth University.
He was always self-motivated and knew exactly what he wanted to do; where many young people attempt different careers, drifting between jobs and changing their course, Adam was always determined to pursue a career in television and film effects, and was keen to put in the hard graft to get there.
It was at Aberystwyth University that he met and fell in love with Clare and after completing their degrees, they moved to London to pursue their respective careers: Adam in visual effects and Clare in teaching. They worked hard, living in a tiny flat in King’s Cross, and enjoyed exploring the city at the weekend, making new friends and frequenting the local pubs.
In 2017, an exciting job opportunity as a Compositor for Legend 3D presented itself, so Clare and Adam took a huge step and moved to Toronto – the home of the film production industry. It was competitive but Adam threw himself into his passion for film and television and kept climbing up the ladder. Adam and Clare enjoyed their lives in Canada, laying down roots when they adopted their cat, Smudge, and enjoying their shared interests of WWE and Formula One.
When he passed, Adam was working as Creative Head and Visual Effects Supervisor at Vitamin VFX. He had recently discovered that he has been nominated twice for Achievement in Visual Effects at the 2024 Canadian Screen Awards, akin to the Baftas and Oscars.
His family and friends were so proud of his tenacity, his dedication and the responsibility he felt to support his family. In March 2018, Adam proposed to Clare on the seafront at Aberystwyth, outside of The Bay, a bar where they had originally met. This was done in front of Clare’s Dad as one of his final wishes, and it was magical to share this happy occasion together. In 2022, Adam and Clare became parents to their vibrant, happy boy, Cayden and were married the following year back in the UK.
Adam was delighted to be a dad, and never happier than when he was making Cayden laugh, and spending time together as a family at Niagara Falls. Clare was thrilled to experience Adam as a father, and after the loss of her own dad in July 2018 and Adam’s mum in November 2022, their family was finally able to share some joy and peace. It is these cherished memories that will live with Clare forever, and which she will work hard to share with Cayden as he grows.
It is vital to Clare and the whole family that Cayden knows as much as possible about his dad, and the wonderful bond they shared that tragically ended too soon.
Adam’s funeral service will be held at 1.00pm on Friday 26 April at: The SIMPLE ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL CENTRE - PICKERING 1057 Brock Road Pickering, ON L1W 3T7 Prior to this, from 12.00pm - 1.00pm, visitation will be available for friends and colleagues, should they wish to say a personal goodbye to Adam. After the funeral, there will be a gathering at the family home: 24-1350 Glenana Road Pickering, ON L1V 2V9
Anyone who knew and loved Adam is welcome to attend, and the family is grateful to anyone who would like to come and pay their respects. On this site, there is a digital guestbook where you are invited to leave condolences and happy memories of Adam, as well as a media area for music, photos or videos. If you could take a moment to write about the times you shared with Adam, and upload any images you have of him, these will be collected for Cayden to enjoy and learn more about his dad in the coming years.
The whole Graves family would like to thank everyone who was part of Adam’s life and brought joy to him, offered him opportunities to grow and put a smile on his face.
His life was too short, but he lived bravely and we are choosing to celebrate his memory and show thanks for his life.

He transplanted to Toronto, then to Smiths Falls, Ontario.
After Rosina passed away, dad got together with a kind lady from the area, Margaret Sonley.
Marg was his lifeline during the last bunch of years and the family acknowledges how kind a person she was to our dad. Looking after him until the very end.
Dad always said if it wasn’t for bad luck, he wouldn’t have any luck at all.
Well, having Marg as his partner in the end was the greatest stroke of luck he could ever have had. Dad will be missed.
Also, thanks to all who visited dad in his final months, you made a difference in his life.
Dad has been cremated and no service is being held on his wishes. A celebration of life will happen in the near future.
