1930 - 2023
It is with deep sadness that we said goodbye to our sweet dad on Thursday, December 21, 2023 in his 94th year.
Ed was predeceased by his sweetheart, Margaret (2021); and is survived by his devoted children, Sharon Smith-Carter (Rick), Suzanne Smith-Bayley (Mark) and Andrew Smith; and grandchildren Harrison Carter (Jessica), Spencer Bayley (Bianca), Meghan Bayley and Callum Bayley.
He will be fondly remembered by honorary grandkids, Dan and Stephanie Carter. Ed was born in Glasgow, Scotland and emigrated with his bride Margaret in 1957, settling in Don Mills to raise his family.
He was a proud electrician (IBEW 353) for over 60 years and a long-standing Mason who marched as a drummer in the Rameses Pipe & Drum Band. He instilled in us a deep appreciation for all genres of music and reading in our youth.
Dad loved musicals, classic movies, walking, reading, travel and entertaining his grandchildren into his retirement.
We would like to thank the S.R.T. Palliative Team for their compassionate guidance and his kind caregivers at Sunrise. Cremation has taken place and entrusted with Paul O'Connor Funeral Home, Scarborough.
A memorial service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, or Baycrest Dementia Research Fund (baycrestfoundation.org).
