JACKSON, Erma Priscilla - It is with much sadness that the family of Erma Jackson announces her passing at Springdale Country Manor on March 15, 2017 in her 96th year.
Erma was born on the Jackson homestead in Cavan Township, Ontario on May 20, 1921, the daughter of William Melville Jackson and Emily Davis, who both died when Erma was a child. Erma continued to live on the homestead farm with her grandparents, William (Cappy) Jackson and Priscilla Dunlop, as well as several aunts and uncles. The family moved to George Street in Peterborough in 1929 and Erma lived there until 1974.
During that time, Erma graduated from a business course at the Peterborough Collegiate, after which she first worked at Elliott's stationery company. Next, for ten years she was the secretary in the main office of DeLaval which produced cream separators and coolers. That followed with another employment for ten more years as the secretary for CIAG Insurance Company in Peterborough. She retired from that position to take care of her uncle Percy Stanley Jackson and his wife Maurietta who had multiple sclerosis. Stan and his brother Lorne Jackson were local distributors of the Frost and Woods products and Cockshutt Farm Machinery.
Erma returned to Cavan township in 1974 to restore and live on the homestead farm on Hayes line, where she stayed until 2003 when she returned to Peterborough, and finally into the Springdale Country Manor.
She is survived by cousins Burritt Gibson Branch of Lindsay, Ontario, Laurie George Branch of Burlington, Ontario and Carol Branch Mason of Clermont, Florida and their families, as well as members of the extended Jackson family.
Funeral services will be held at the COMSTOCK-KAYE LIFE CELEBRATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough, Ontario on March 22nd at 12 noon with reception to follow. Interment will take place at Emily Cemetery in Emily Township.
