Maria da Conceicao Duarte Ferreira

It is with sadness to announce that Maria da Conceicao Duarte Ferreira, of Whitby, Ontario, died on January 22, 2025, at Lakeridge Health Hospital Oshawa. First diagnosed on August 19, 2004, Maria valiantly fought cancer for more than twenty years.
Born on February 26, 1926, on São Miguel (a Portuguese island in the Azores 1,400 km west of Lisbon) to Jose de Sousa Duarte and Maria Ernestina Furtado Duarte, Maria immigrated to Canada in 1958 with her two sons to join her husband Nicolau Ferreira in Toronto, Ontario. She lived many years at 6 Lachlan Dr., Ajax, and her last 2 years at the Court at Pringle Creek, an independent living apartment in Whitby. She was a good neighbor and consoled and helped others, making many friends throughout her life who respected and loved her. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Maria is survived by her sons Jose and Luis Ferreira, and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Maria was an active church member of Ajax Alliance Church and was close to many of the church members and pastor.
Maria was an accomplished artist, a dedicated gardener, and a meticulous housekeeper who maintained her property impeccably throughout her entire life, tending to the lawn and shoveling snow well into her mid-90s.
Celebration of Life
A celebration of life for Maria da Conceicao Duarte Ferreira will be held at McEachnie Funeral Home, 28 Old Kingston Road, Ajax Pickering Village, Ontario.
On Thursday, January 30, 2025, the family will pay their respects to Maria in private from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM. From 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, friends of Maria will join the family to pay their respects.
On Friday, January 31, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, the family will pay their final respects to Maria, and from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, friends of Maria will join the family to pay their final respects. At 11:00 AM, a service will be held in the Chapel at McEachnie Funeral Home.
At 12:00 PM, a meal will be provided in the Reception Area of McEachnie Funeral Home for those in attendance of the celebration of life for Maria.
At 3:00 PM, Maria will be laid to rest at the Duffin Meadows Cemetery, 2505 Brock Road North, R.R. #1 Pickering, Ontario.
In lieu of memorial flowers, please consider making a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society in honor of Maria.
