Flora Carmela Foggia

July 18, 1935 - November 8, 2024

With profound love and cherished memories, we announce the peaceful passing of Flora Carmela Foggia on Friday, November 8, 2024, at the age of 89, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Born on July 18, 1935, in Cosenza, Italy, Flora was the beloved daughter of the late Luisa and Pietro Masci, and the devoted wife of the late Settembrino “Peter” Foggia, with whom she shared 70 years of unwavering love and companionship.

Flora’s life was a tapestry woven with the threads of family, joy, and an indomitable spirit. Her legacy continues through her cherished children: Mary-Lou Smuczek (Stan), Lucy Kauppi (Robert), Anna, Silvana, Franca, Julie, and Peter. She was a devoted grandmother to Joey Smuczek (Burlington), Stephanie Smuczek (Toronto), Trina (Sault Ste. Marie), Adam Kauppi (North Bay), Joshua Bonds (Chatham), Nicholas Bonds (Sault Ste. Marie), Rayann Sewdell (Sault Ste. Marie), Annarae Jarrett (Chad) (Sault Ste. Marie), Christina Legere (Toronto), and Patrick Desgrossliers (Mexico), as well as a proud great-grandmother to many.

Flora was predeceased by her parents and her siblings, including Maruzza Luzzi (Italy), and is survived by her siblings Angelo Masci (late Gemma), Grace Tarsitano (Tony), Fernando Masci (Tonina), Jepino Masci, Rita Masci (all of Italy), and Bernadette Masci (Nazir). She will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who adored her.

A woman of great warmth and generosity, Flora was the epitome of selflessness. Her home was always open, her table always full, and her advice always wise. She had a spirited nature, which infused every gathering with laughter and every hardship with hope. Flora’s hands were rarely still, tending to the roses in her garden or crafting meals that nourished both body and soul.

Flora’s unwavering faith and strength were sources of inspiration to all who knew her, and her legacy of love will continue to resonate within the hearts of her family and friends. Heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Ontario Finnish Resthome for their exceptional care of Flora over the years.

Family and friends are invited to visit at O’Sullivan Funeral Home, 215 St. James St., Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society would be greatly appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to O’Sullivan Funeral Home (705-759-8456). To send flowers or plant a tree in memory of Flora, please visit O'Sullivan Funeral Home.
