Valerie Freda (Hughdie) Fowle

February 14, 1940 - March 5, 2025

In Loving Memory

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of our adored and beloved Valerie. She will be forever missed by her loving husband, Tom, and cherished by her children Michael (Bonnie-deceased), Richard (Susan), and Julia. Loving grandmother to Kyle (Miranda), Sean (Lydia), Jennifer (Jim), Lisa (Marvin), Aidan, and Shannon. Proud great-grandmother to Eliot, Alexander, George, Jamison, Joseph, and Rose.

Valerie will be lovingly remembered by her brother David, sister-in-law Margaret, nephews Kevin and Barry, niece Kirsty, as well as family and friends in England and Ireland.

Born on February 14, 1940, in Sligo, Republic of Ireland, Valerie spent much of her childhood in and around Dun Laoghaire. After attending schools in England and Ireland, she worked for Barclays Bank. She met Tom at a rugby club dance in Ashford, Kent, and they married on September 6, 1966. In the late sixties, they moved to Canada and eventually settled in West Hill, Scarborough, where they raised their three children.

Valerie was a devoted wife and mother who loved spending time with family and friends, reading, playing bridge, working on the Globe and Mail cryptic crossword, and playing tennis at the local club in her younger years. In 2001, she and Tom retired to Uxbridge, a town they came to love, often stopping there on their way to their cottage on Gull Lake. Valerie adored their home and garden in Quaker Village and enjoyed walks in the neighborhood. She was also involved with the Lucy Maud Montgomery Society, helping to organize and host charitable events. Valerie and Tom shared many travel adventures, exploring South America, Asia, and Europe.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Stacey, Maddy, Nicole, Molly, and the staff at Douglas Crossing for their compassionate care over the past year.

Services:

A private family service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025. A celebration of Valerie’s life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Uxbridge Hospital Foundation or Parkinson Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family.

May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand. - An Irish Blessing
