Rupert R. Franks
January 23, 1936 – December 12, 2024
Rupert Raymond Franks, aged 88, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at his home in Mississauga. Born in Mangalore, India, to Leo and Emma Franks on January 23, 1936, Rupert lived a life rich in love, adventure, and dedication.
He is survived by his beloved wife of almost sixty years, Letitia Agatha Franks; his five cherished children—Leonard, Conrad, Mildred, Eldred, and Bernard; and his older brother, Hubert Franks. He is predeceased by his siblings Austin Franks, Jason Franks, and a baby sister. Rupert is also the adored grandfather of three grandchildren, Ashley, Danielle, and Anjali, who brought him endless joy and whom he loved deeply.
During his childhood, Rupert attended a Jesuit boarding school, excelling in both academics and sports. He began his career as a radio engineer before transitioning into banking, a profession that took him to Uganda and later to the Middle East in the aftermath of the war. His work and travels nurtured his love for exploring diverse cultures, and he became fluent in more than four languages.
Rupert will be remembered for his quick wit, humor, sociable nature, and unwavering faith. He was a man who deeply cherished his family and friends, and his loyalty to them knew no bounds. A natural storyteller and a “living encyclopedia” of wisdom and experience, Rupert brought life and laughter to those around him.
In his later years, Rupert continued to enjoy the activities and connections he loved, staying fully present until his final moments. His family is forever grateful to those who provided care and support during his last years; he recognized and appreciated each of them deeply.
Rupert now rests peacefully with the Lord and the loved ones who preceded him. His legacy of love, faith, and adventure will forever live in the hearts of those who knew him.
