Mary Borovsky (née Howes)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Borovsky, in her 91st year, who left this world peacefully on March 4, 2025.

Mary’s warmth, strength, and unwavering kindness touched the lives of all who knew her. A beloved mother, grandmother, and wife, Mary’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience. Her gentle spirit, caring nature, and sense of humor made every gathering brighter. As a trained nurse, Mary’s life was defined by her devotion to family, her passion for nurturing those around her, and her quiet strength in the face of life’s challenges.

She will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. She is survived by her husband John, children Kevin (Fran) and Maureen (James), and four grandchildren: Matthew, Liesl, Jennifer, and Melissa.

Mary’s family wishes to thank the staff at Hillsdale Terraces for the excellent care and support they provided during her stay.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Armstrong Funeral Home (124 King St. E., Oshawa) from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and again from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass to honour Mary’s life will take place at St. Joseph the Worker Parish on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Wolodymyr & St. Olha Cemetery, Courtice.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mary’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

Peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Age Care Samac, in his 92nd year.

Beloved husband of Bess for 25 years. Loving father of the late Roger and step-father of Dan, Barry, Randy, and David. Cherished grandfather of Lynaya, Nicole, Cameron, Brooke, and Ryan, and special Papa of Steven and Meagan. Dear brother of Marguerite. Predeceased by his siblings Wilfred, Thérese, Samuel, Leopold, and Raymond.

Ron was born in Sudbury and worked in the mines before moving to Toronto. He spent many years working at Boeing Aviation before retirement.

Ron enjoyed boxing in his younger years and then became an avid golfer. In recent years, he took pleasure in spending his time researching his family ancestry.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (632 Thornton Rd. N., Oshawa) from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment to take place at Meadowvale Cemetery, Brampton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

With heartfelt sorrow, the family of Theressa Quinn announces her passing on February 22, 2025, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, in her 55th year.

Loving mother of Zachery Quinn and Courtney Gaudet. Beloved daughter of Sandra Quinn and the late Edward Quinn. Caring sister of Andrew, Shawn (Joy), and Tony (Bridget).

February 28, 2025

Unexpectedly, yet peacefully, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Northumberland Hills Hospital, at the age of 61.

Predeceased by her beloved husband, John Drewett. Cherished mother of Shane Gillies (Susan), Jason Gillies (Tanya), and Melissa Gillies (Paul). Devoted grandmother of Quinntin and Baya. Dear sister of Debbie and Lesley. Loving daughter of Norma Young (née Johncox) and the late Ross Young.

Mary Jane will be deeply missed by all her loving fur babies and the many animals she cared for with love and dedication, always finding joy in nurturing both pets and wildlife.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Joan Frances May Barbara Wood

Passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, at the age of 88.

Predeceased by her beloved husband, Orval Wood, and her daughter, Christine Brisebois.

Loving mother of Don Brisebois and Nicole Wood. Cherished grandmother of Sabrina, Ashley, Ronnie, Tina, Edith, Brandon, and Daniel, and great-grandmother of many.
Dear sister of John, and the late Fred, Bob, and Murray, as well as stepsister of Caroline. Joan will be fondly remembered by her extended family and friends.

Joan worked for many years as a dedicated healthcare aide at Hillsdale Manor. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed spending time with her family and taking long walks outside.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home (124 King St. E., Oshawa).

ELIZABETH ANNE JARRELL

October 28, 1946 - February 26, 2025

Peacefully passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at The Renoir Retirement Home in Newmarket, at the age of 78. Cherished sister of Linda McDonald, Mary Jarrell, Michael Jarrell, and Stephen Jarrell.

Predeceased by her sister Catherine Cahill and brother-in-law Bill McDonald.

Dear aunt of Suzanne (Mark), Heather (Dale), Laura, and Cameron (Sandrine). Beloved great-aunt to Noah, Claire, Ellis, Mac, Vera, Dean, Kiara, Kyson, Easton, Dominic, and Brooks.

Dear daughter of the late Joseph Edmund (Ed) Jarrell and Hanorah Marie McAvoy Jarrell.

Elizabeth was born in Belleville, Ontario, and moved with her family to Oshawa in 1956. She enjoyed a long career in education, working as a teacher and principal in the Durham Region Catholic School Board. She also taught in Northern Ontario Indigenous fly-in communities.

After retirement, Elizabeth embarked on her next adventure, traveling to China to live and work as a principal of English language preparatory high schools. She lived in Beijing, Shanghai, and Tianjin Xingang, working extensively in education.

Elizabeth eventually retired to Newmarket to be close to family and friends. She will be remembered for her love of teaching, her passion for travel, and her cherished role as Aunt and great-aunt "B."

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grandview Kids or Newmarket Food Pantry.

William Joseph Guest

February 26, 2025

William Guest passed away unexpectedly on February 26, 2025, at his home in Oshawa at the age of 56.

He is the son of Helen and the late William Guest. William is mourned by his mother, brothers Anthony (Marie), Charles, James (Kim), and sister Gillian (Jeremy Storry). He is the beloved "Uncle Coolio" of William, Jack, James, Tessa, Nathan, Charlie, Gwen, Mavis, and Abi. William is lovingly remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and neighbours.

William, Will, Willie was a charming, funny, and entertaining gentleman who loved people and moved through life giving joy and laughter to those of all ages and walks of life. He particularly enjoyed his time in the far north and the relationships he formed there.

We thank all the people who loved and supported Will in his lifetime—his relatives, teachers, co-workers, and friends, and all those who mourn his passing. With memories, we struggle to fill the space his passing has left.

A reception in Will’s honour will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
