Passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa in her 98th year.

Beloved wife of Stanley for 72 years.

Dear mother of Victor (Linda) and Ramona Johnson (the late Nelson).

Beloved grandmother of Jennifer (Brian), Gregory (Lauren), Kristopher (Melissa), Nicole (RJ) and Andrew.

Great Grandmother of Aislin, Nolan, Sierra, Braydon, Everett, Riley, Isaac &Ilyse.

Predeceased by many of her family and friends.

Vicky will be lovingly remembered by many extended family members.

Her Grandson Kris wrote this lovely tribute…It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of our beloved grandmother’s passing. While I won her as a Grandma whin I was 7, I felt her impression on my life instantly and ever since. She lived a full, incredible, hard and rewarding 98 years, filled with love, wisdom and unforgettable memories. The ultimate blueprint of a successful immigrant story, having left everything behind during the war to establish new roots in Canada. Her spirit was strong and her influence reigned over all of us as the true Matriarch she was. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her. Kemlo, Leonard “Skip” Frank Gordon

It is with profound sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of Len on Monday, August 26th at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Dear husband of Carol (nee Nixon) for 50 years. Loving and supportive Dad to Matt (Jaimee Lea) and Chris (J.J.). Proud grandfather of Kershaw and C.J., who were grandpa’s pride and joy. Lovingly remembered by Jagger, Danika, and Stevie Lea. Special “Skunkle” to Virginia, Paul, and Tyler Breedon and Victoria Berwick.

Skip will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by the Nixon, McGill, Jenkins and Alder families and dear friends. And of course that includes his wonderful golf buddies, who were such an important part of his life, with a very special thank you to Ron and Roger for always being there for their friend.

Skip was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Clarice (aka Bill) Kemlo and his favourite sister Patricia Meek.
Our family is grateful to his dedicated home nurse Goldie, PSW’s and the doctors and nurses in the palliative unit for their kindness, support and care.

Your family is forever thankful for your precious time with us. May you forever be at peace, knowing how much you were loved, respected and cherished.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024 from 12-1 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home (124 King St. E., Oshawa). A Celebration of Life will follow in the Chapel at 1 p.m.

CONRAD, Wallace Erlin  - Passed away peacefully at home with his daughter Tina by his side on August 24, 2024.

Wallace Conrad, in his 82nd year leaves behind his children Kim Conrad (Keith Barranger), Tina Conrad and Steve Conrad (Dean Radcliffe).

Adored papa of Steven, Elishia & Tanis. Great grandpapa to Evelyn.

Dear brother of Madeline, Lloyd, Marshall, Jane, Celia, Granville & Isabel. Predeceased by his parents Nena & Vernon and siblings Margaret & Edgar.

Wallace will be lovingly remembered by family and friends in Ontario & Nova Scotia.

He was a proud retiree of General Motors after many years of service. In his early years Wallace served as a cook and worked on Canadian Navy Ships on the east coast. He also worked on oil rigs for many years. Wallace was an incredible “Jack of all Trades”, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do, fix or figure out. He enjoyed wood working, music, playing the guitar and especially, spending time with his family.

As per Wallace’s wishes, A Private Family Celebration of Life will take place at a future date.

Passed away at her home on August 25, 2024, at the age of 69.

Predeceased by her father Jim Curtis.

Beloved daughter of Alta Curtis.

McLEOD, Alan  - 
Surrounded by his family, Alan passed away peacefully on Friday August 23, 2024 at Toronto General Hospital.

Alan fought courageously and relentlessly with lung disease for 313 days in ICU to stay with his family, who were by his side every day, but in the end, it was all too much.

Alan leaves behind his beloved wife of 45 years Debbie, his devoted children Aaron (Carolyn) and Shannon (Mark) and his adoring grandchildren Mason, Spencer & Adley.

Brother of Murray (Lynda) and Darlene (David), and brother-in-law to Brenda (Floyd), Linda (Gary) & Harold (Christine). Uncle of Kevin, Christine, Michael, Kayla, Tyler, Alyssa, Julianna, Jessica & Devon.

Alan retired after many years in Commercial Property Leasing and Management, spending many years with Shoppers Drug Mart, Head Office.

Alan was always involved in sports and immersed himself coaching his children’s teams in baseball, hockey and soccer. His happy place was the cottage, enjoying a Miller Lite on the dock. Alans favourite times were spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, his proudest title was Papa. He was a steadfast and
loyal friend to many.

The family would like to send out a special and sincere thank you to Ali, TGH Patient Care Coordinator, who was relentless in her outstanding care and support for Alan and the entire family.

Please join with the family at ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME , 124 King Street East, Oshawa on Saturday September 7th for Visitation from 2pm to 4pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4pm.

HEBERT, Danny  - 
Passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Predeceased by his mother Irene and his father Alfred, his daughter Lana, and baby Hebert. Danny leaves behind his daughter Melanie Hewson (Jeff) and his long-time cherished friend Monique.

Forever remembered by Eleanor Leger, Katrina Burgess (Jordan), Damien Burgess (Faye), Robin Perry (Shawn) and Sulinda Burgess (Josh).

Adored papa to Juniper, Tanner, Alexander, Travis, Zachary, Dakota, Jordan, Jace, Jaydon, Dimitri, Hazel, Blake, Claire, Alexandria, Riven & Aria.

Danny will be lovingly remembered by many family and friends.

Danny had a true passion for woodworking and gardening, finding joy in creating beautiful things with his hands and nurturing plants. He loved taking long car rides, the country music playing loudly in the background, and cherished moments spent outdoors with friends. Above all, nothing brought him more happiness than the time he spent with his family, making memories that they can carry with them that would last a lifetime.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time date.

ALGER, Edith Louise Alger -  It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Edith Alger on Monday July 8th, 2024.

Predeceased by her husband William Alger (Bill), and sister Beverly Phillips.
Edith leaves behind her children, Christine Collins (Merle), Peter Alger (Debbie), Susan Alger and Patrick Alger.

Proud and loving grandmother to Michelle Collins, Matthew Collins (Lauren), Paige Collins, Michael Collins (Anna), Benjamin Hori (Hannah), Kelsey Irvine (Momme), Lindsay Irvine, great grandmother to Kristina, Keagan, Noelle, Nicholas, Braven, Arrow, Storm, Nora, and Max.
Survived by her sister Diana Ross.

There are countless individuals in Oshawa, Durham Region and beyond, whose lives have been touched by her dedicated, and passionate work as a tireless volunteer, committed Board member, community philanthropist and devoted friend.

As the youngest of three sisters, Edith started her legacy as a private nurse through Oshawa General Hospital, having studied at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario. A lifelong commitment to voluntary service continued in 1960 as a volunteer with the YWCA in Oshawa.

By 1970 she was on the Board of Directors working on a number of local and national committees which culminated in her taking over as the President of the Oshawa YWCA. Edith was recognized for her years of service with the YWCA, with the Women of Distinction award. Thus began her career as a professional volunteer focused on bringing essential funding, focused leadership and compassionate care to a number of organizations. Edith has also delivered Meals on Wheels, organized blood donor clinics and served on the Board as Chair for Red Cross.

Her volunteer and Board of Directors positions have included, LHINs, now known as Home and Community Care Support Services, Information Oshawa, Feed the Need, Windreach Farm and the Windreach Farm Foundation, Durham Community Foundation, Columbus Community Church, Heart and Stroke Foundation, and Hearth Place.

Edith’s focus on education began with Durham College when she served as a member of the Board of Governors from 1987 to 1992. In the late 1990s, she also served on the Durham College President’s Advisory Committee providing insight into the creation of the partnerships between the college and the newly established University of Ontario Institute of Technology (now known as Ontario Tech University).

She has supported students at both institutions through generous gifts towards construction of the Oshawa Campus Library and the purchase of new adaptive technologies for the joint Centre for Students with Disabilities. In 2011, she also donated funds towards construction of the Centre for Food, to help turn the college’s field-to-fork vision into reality.

Along with many formal recognitions, Edith was awarded both the Queen Elizabeth II's Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals. Edith forged lasting friendships through her work, her volunteerism and her many interests. Those who came to know Edith, respected her intelligence, dedication and kindness. She had a gift to make every interaction a meaningful one, putting everyone at ease with her generous spirit.

Like her husband William Alger, they dedicated their lives to family, friends and the community in which they lived and raised their family.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the exceptional staff at Harmony Hills Retirement Community, and to Debbie Armstrong and the wonderful team at Armstrong Funeral Home.

ROBINSON, Wayne Robinson -

Suddenly passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at his home, in his 83rd year.

Beloved husband of Marie for 62 years. Cherished father of Sandy Robinson (Perry Hoffmann) and Robbie Robinson (Deanna Coady). Devoted grandfather of Jakob Robinson-Hoffmann, Wade Coady, Tanner Coady, Cameron Robinson, and Brady Robinson and great-grandfather of Zander Coady.

Dear brother of Bob (April), David (late Holly), late Allen, Glen (Cindy), and Greg.

Wayne will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Ken & Leotta Robinson.

Wayne enjoyed riding motorcycles and bicycles. Later in life, he truly enjoyed spending his time golfing.
