Veronika LyonsLYONS, Catherine Lyons - September 17th, 2024

Our dear Cathy left us peacefully on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 after a brief stay at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

Daughter of the late Veronica and Julius Puskas, beloved wife of the late Jack Lyons and the adored mother of Michele (Paul) and Mike (Tracy). She was a proud and doting grandmother to Jack, Shawn and Bronwyn. She was the dear sister of Liz Dressing (John) and sister-in-law of the late Marg Longauer (the late Danny). Cathy will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews Lance Longauer, Steve Longauer (Nancy), Ray Longauer (Stacey), Ted Longauer (Cathy), and Suzanne Dashney (the late Kevin) and by her cousins Robert Velecky (Rosemary) and John Velecky (Cynthia).

Cathy was a remarkable lady. She was creative and curious and adventurous. She loved bold fabrics, beautiful clothing, gardening, music, and good food. She and Jack enjoyed travelling the world together learning about different cultures and cuisines. During a trip to Argentina, they danced the tango outdoors with the locals. And they both loved to nurture their beautiful garden.

Cathy was a wonderful mother to Michele and Mike and quite simply adored her grandchildren. She especially loved cooking for the kids who often came by for her famous chicken paprikash and chocolate cake. Even after they left for university, Cathy made it a point to spend as much time with them as possible and earlier this year, went to Europe with them for 3 weeks.

Cathy had a close and supportive network of friends with whom she lunched, biked, enjoyed Hungarian picnics, planned gourmet club dinners and played bridge.

Cathy was so thankful for the care she received from her GP Dr. Sitha and from her oncology team, Dr. Shim at Lakeridge Health and Dr. Myrehaug at Sunnybrook Hospital. The family would like to thank the remarkable team at Lakeridge that supported her in her final journey including Dr. Rastogi and the nurses on G9 and the Palliative team led by Dr. “Sam”. They were kind and caring and knew exactly what she needed.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 10:30 am at St. John the Evangelist Parish (903 Giffard St., Whitby). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Simcoe Hall Settlement House (Simcoehall.com) would be appreciated by the family. For online condolences please visit armstrongfh.ca
