David Allan Brooks

August 4, 1928 - February 26, 2025

Following a life well lived, we announce the passing of David Allan Brooks, otherwise known as Al or Allan, on February 26, 2025.

Allan was the son of Morley and Irma Brooks (Cooper) and was predeceased by his wife Betty Barbara Brooks (Emorey); his partner Joan Davidson; sisters Ruth Lewis (Paul), Lois Rowe (Foster), and Marion Gallinger (Paul); and brother Glen Brooks (Beverly).

He enjoyed building things, the hunting camp (which he was instrumental in creating and maintaining), snowmobiling, and a good party. His years in and around the construction business, including working with Brooks Construction and Oshawa Equipment Rentals, served him well.

Allan played a key role in many projects in Oshawa and surrounding areas, including additions to the Oshawa Hospital (now Lakeridge Health) in 1960, major renovations to the Oshawa Times building, a nine-bay garage and shop in Huntsville, and the creation of a press pit in Oshawa for Houdaille Industries.

Always a creative thinker with a strong work ethic, Allan could find a way to make anything work. He was a good friend, a good listener, and always willing to lend a helping hand. While he did not suffer fools easily, he had a great sense of humor and a kind heart.

Allan is survived by his five children: Terry Prentice (Rick) of Port Perry, Doug Brooks (Laura) of Courtice, Don Brooks (Debbie) of Apsley, Lynn Georgeff (Jim) of Newmarket, and Janice Turner of Wasaga Beach; as well as his step-son Rob Davidson (Cathy) of Port Perry. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

At a recent doctor’s visit, when asked about his life, Al remarked, “I am tired, but I am 96, have five kids, and not one of them is a dud.” He was a devoted family man and will be sorely missed by all.

In his 96 years, he rarely complained, loved to be busy and creatively productive, always had a joke ready, and enjoyed a good dessert. The only things he really disliked were chicken, telephone solicitors, and lazy people!

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home, 5295 Thickson Rd. North, Whitby, Ontario. Family and friends are invited to visit anytime between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to share memories and stories.

In memory of Allan, donations to the CNIB Guide Dog Program would be appreciated.

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home.

John Murray McEachern

May 28, 1940 – February 25, 2025

With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of John Murray McEachern, who passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Hospital on February 25, 2025, at the age of 84. Born in Toronto, John was raised by his father Bruce, his mother Ida, and his aunt Leona.

While our hearts are heavy, we celebrate the extraordinary life of a man who was a beacon of kindness, generosity, and warmth to all who knew him.

A devoted father, grandfather, and husband, John is now reunited with his beloved wife Claire, with whom he shared an unbreakable, storybook bond for over forty-five years. He will be deeply missed by his sons Jason and Martin, his daughter-in-law Amanda, and his grandchildren Owen and Jasmine.

John was a gifted artist who channeled his talent into a prolific career in graphic design. Even in his final years, he selflessly offered his skills and creativity for free to anyone without means. His gentle, creative spirit was also reflected in the countless, beautiful scale models he built throughout his lifetime. While John loved sharing his creations, he loved even more sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm, guiding, encouraging, and inspiring others to pursue their interests and dreams.

A tireless friend and indefatigable listener, he always made others feel recognized, valued, and special, and was quick to nurture and support anyone in need. His heart was always open, his hands always helping.

With deep fondness, we will also remember him immersed in his lifelong love affair with motorsports. John's passion for racing began as a child, serving as the one-man pit crew for his car-racing father Bruce, and blossomed into a deep devotion that was infectious, illuminating our lives with the same joy that will never cease to shine brightly within us.

We will forever hold his nurturing spirit near and carry forward the love he shared so generously throughout his amazing life. John once said, “Try to leave the world a little bit more beautiful for having been in it.”

Mission accomplished, John. To that we say, put your foot to the floor and don’t lift till you see the checkered flag. In our hearts, you’ll be taking the checkered flag every day for the rest of our lives.

In memory of John, donations may be made to the Lakeridge Health Foundation and would be appreciated.

Isobel Hastie Campbell (Gallagher)

June 8, 1945 - February 24, 2025

Isobel Campbell, of Whitby, Ontario, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on June 8, 1945, at Barshaw Hospital in Paisley, Scotland, she lived a life filled with love, adventure, and deep family connections.

Born a twin to Charles and Anne Gallagher (Charlie and Nan), just moments after her loving twin sister Margaret, Isobel was surrounded by family from the very start. The Gallagher family expanded with the arrival of her brother Jim and sister Anne. She later met her beloved husband, Ian, and together they built a beautiful life with their sons, Ian and Craig, and daughter, Leanne.

In the early 1970s, Isobel and Ian made the courageous decision to move their family from Scotland to Canada. Their journey took them first to New Brunswick and then to the Oshawa/Whitby area, where they reunited with her twin sister Margaret and her family. Isobel dedicated many years of service to Oshawa General Hospital and Pinewood Centre Addiction Services, always fostering strong connections with those around her.

Her love for family was boundless, and as the years went on, the family grew. She welcomed her children's partners—Leona, Autumn, and countless beloved pets—along with cherished grandchildren, James and Adamina. She found joy in gathering with loved ones, whether at a bustling holiday table or in quiet moments with her three children.

Isobel was an adventurer at heart, traveling the world and embracing new experiences. Even in her later years, she continued to explore, taking trips with friends and expanding her horizons. She loved deeply, lived fully, and will be forever surrounded by the love she so generously gave.
