REID, Marlene (nee Richards) Reid  - 

June 5, 1938 - June 17, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Marlene Reid (nee Richards) who passed away on Monday June 17, 2024 at the age of 86.

he will always be lovingly remembered by her daughters Shaaron Del Vecchio (and husband Mike) and Debbie Marsden as well as her grandchildren Amy Del Vecchio, Marcus Del Vecchio, Grace Del Vecchio, Dana Yurchi, Adam Marsden-Yurchi and Harrison Marsden-Yurchi.

Fondly remembered by her former husband Ken Reid. Mom is survived by her siblings in England Sheila Perry (and husband Mike) and David Richards (and wife Susan) whose strong bond stretched many miles across the ocean. Also in England are nieces and nephews Mark Perry and his daughter Jessica, Lisa Richards (and husband Gavin) as well as Susan Hall, Timothy Hall, Billy Hall and Carlo Hall.

Mom was predeceased by her parents Harry and Annie Richards and her brother Raymond Richards. 

Mom came to Canada in 1959 as a young woman ready for an adventure. She quickly made Canada her home when she married her then husband the late Michael Marsden, father to Shaaron and Debbie. Mom’s heart has always remained in England where she will be buried at a later date.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Hillsdale Estates for their continuous support as well as her PSW and friend Valerie who brought kindness and patience to mom's day.

Visitation  on Wednesday June 25th from 12:00 Noon until time of service AT BARNES MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME in the Barnes Chapel at 1:00 pm

GUTHRIE, Jacqulin Betty (nee Rose) Guthrie  -

May 21, 1933 - June 17, 2024

- 91 years “I had a good life”! Jacqulin Betty Guthrie (nee Rose) passed away peacefully on Monday, June 17, 2024, at Port Perry Hospital with family at her side. Jackie was born and raised in Markham to parents Harvey and Birdie Rose (Gould).

Predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Wm Bill Guthrie (2016), and oldest son Donald (2022). Jackie is survived by her daughter-in-law Leslie Guthrie, Delhi; Wilma (Ted) Smith, Sunderland; Neil, Ajax; Dwight (Linda), Cobourg; Jennifer (Paul) Jones, Bowmanville.

Her 8 grandchildren, Kelly (Dave) Cowan; Kristie (AJ) Martin; Graham (Holly) Smith; Lee- Ann Smith; Adrienne (Darren)Fang; Hannah Jones; Melissa (Jesse) Rice; Stephanie Guthrie. And 8 great-grandchildren, Cole, Lane, Brynn, Briar, Madison, Ariannna, Kason and Adalynn.

Also survived by her sister Marjorie Mitchell (late Gord). Predeceased by Duard (Dorothy) Rose, Gerry (Dorothy) Rose and June (Frank) Underwood.

Auntie Jack also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Jackie grew up in Markham, her first job being delivering the Star. After high school she attended Normal School in Toronto.

A year later she married Bill on July 11, 1953, and moved to the farm in Whitby. Jackie was a very busy lady raising five children, being an active member in UCW and Eastern Star (67 yrs), leading CGIT, Sunday School and Youth Group, along with her farm wife duties. Her kindness, strength and sense of humour will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Cremation has taken place.

A Celebration of Life will take place at the BARNES MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 5295 Thickson Road N, Whitby - Vistitation Monday, June 24th from 6-8 pm, and 12:00 on Tuesday, June 25th, Service at 1:00 and reception to follow.

The family would like to thank the care she received from West Shore Village; and Dr DeHaas and Dr Xue and the nurses at the Port Perry Hospital, for their kindness and care. In Jackie’s memory please make donations to the Cancer Society, Heart & Stroke, Diabetes, Port Perry Hospital or the Mount Zion United Church.

     

Scott DaleSCOTT, Dale  -
February 27, 1948 - January 2, 2024

Passed away after a lengthy illness on Tuesday January 2nd, 2024 at the age of 75.

Loving husband of Margaret for 50 years. Much loved father of Sarah Scott and her husband Dwayne Clayton and Jonathan Scott.  Cherished Grandpa of Claire.

Dear brother of Paul Scott and his wife Wendy.

An alumni of the University of Waterloo; he obtained his B.Sc. in 1973, and his Masters of Earth Science in 1975. 

Director of Corporate Policy Coordination with the Ministry of Natural Resources for many years.  After retirement, President of Dale Scott and Associates Consulting. 

A lifelong conservationist, his first love was the outdoors.  This was reflected in the numerous environmental projects he embarked on; and the family-like bonds he developed, in the cottage community in the Bruce Peninsula. 

His passion was being on the water; boating, skiing, and fishing; with dogs by his side.  He traveled the world, both with his wife, and with fellow Geologists with the Forum on Industrial Minerals. 

Many thanks to doctors McAllister, Morton, and Zalewski, and the healthcare team at Lakeridge Cancer Centre. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lakeridge Cancer Centre, or Nature Conservancy of Canada.

Visitation at BARNES MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 5295 Thickson Rd. N. Whitby on Saturday January 6th from
1:00 - 3:00 pm.  
Dale will be laid to rest at Eastnor Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 27th from 12:30 - 4:00 p.m. at the Lions Head Rotary Club (59 Main Street, Lions Head, Ontario). Please join us in celebrating Dale's life.

In memory of Dale memorial donations to Lakeridge Health (Cancer Care) or the Nature Conservancy of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
