Peacefully, at Blue Water Rest Home, Zurich, on Thursday, November 21, 2024, Gerald "Gerry" Shantz passed away at the age of 81. Gerry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, whose kindness and enthusiasm touched everyone around him.
Gerry was the beloved husband of Catherine (Gingerich) for over 55 wonderful years. A devoted father to Sonya (Brad Green) of Embro and Steve Shantz of Zurich, he was also a proud and loving grandfather to Christopher and Kaitlyn. Gerry will be deeply missed by his siblings and in-laws: Douglas (Doreen) Shantz of New Hamburg, Richard (Lois) Shantz of Arizona, Norma (John) Iutzi of New Hamburg, Nancy (Paul) Gingerich of Northville, and Mary Ellen (Neil) Skinner of British Columbia. He is fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Elam and Vera (Ropp) Shantz.
Gerry lived a life full of passion and joy, finding happiness in the outdoors and sports. A true enthusiast, he loved baseball, hockey (playing with the Zurich Has-Beans), golfing, hunting, and fishing. Gerry also took great pride in his vegetable garden, which reflected his love of nature and hard work.
Visitation will take place at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, Exeter, on Thursday, November 28, 2024, from 2–4 p.m. and 7–9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Kingsfield Zurich Mennonite Church, 37818 Zurich Hensall Road, Zurich, on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 11 a.m., followed by interment at Zurich Mennonite Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Mennonite Central Committee, West Huron Care Centre, or the Alzheimer Society of Canada in Gerry’s memory.
Gerry’s legacy of love, dedication, and a passion for life will forever remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and community.
Jeltje “Julie” Knip Visscher
July 22, 1930 - October 30, 2024
Jeltje “Julie” Knip Visscher (nee Brouwer) of Exeter, ON, was called home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. Born on July 22, 1930, in Nieuwe Pekela, The Netherlands, Jeltje immigrated to Canada in November 1952.
Predeceased by her husband of 36 years, W. Victor Knip (1953-1989) and later husband of 12 years, Pieter Visscher (2003-2015). Cherished mother of Anne & Mike Flikkema, Fred & Dita Knip, Bert & Elaine Knip, Harry & Marg Knip, Ruth & Earl McNab, John & Kathie Knip, Julia & Tom Dickins, Teresa & Mike Buckman, Mary & John Van Es, and Bert & Wilma Visscher. She is also survived by 35 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was much loved and will be greatly missed by all.
Jeltje is also predeceased by her grandson Evan Dickins, parents Berend and Annechien (Pikkert) Brouwer, and siblings Fenny and Berend Boersma, Henny and Jelle DeJonge, Jan and Truus Brouwer, Jelle and Corrie Brouwer, and Geertje and Harm Haaijer.
Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, Exeter, on Tuesday, November 5th from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 PM. The funeral service will take place at the Exeter Christian Reformed Church, 330 Huron Street West, Exeter, on Wednesday, November 6th at 11 AM, followed by interment at Exeter Cemetery.
In memory of Jeltje, donations to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind or the Exeter Christian Reformed Church would be appreciated.
Tim Stack

Tim Stack passed away suddenly at LHSC – University Hospital, surrounded by his family on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the age of 44.
Cherished husband of Lori (Larson) Stack and proud dad of Steven, as well as stepdad of Shikera (Mike). Tim was the adored son of Debra, and son-in-law of Pauline, and Gary (Peggy). He will be deeply missed by his siblings Bill (Tonya), Cody (Katrina), Logan, and by his in-laws Candace, and Gilbert (Caitlin). Tim was also a beloved uncle to Braylyn, Gilbert Jr., and Hunter.
Predeceased by his father, Randy Vaughan, Tim will be fondly remembered by many friends, extended family, and all who knew him. He had a love for outdoor activities, especially fishing and baseball.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Tim’s life will be held at a later date.
Donations in Tim’s name to Childcan would be appreciated by the family.
