God called Santa Chiaramida peacefully on December 26, 2024, at the age of 90. She is now reunited in Heaven with her loving husband Francesco. Cherished by her dear children Corrado (Dina), Concetta (late-Carmelo), and Lina (Corrado). Proud nonna to Amanda (Giuseppe), Gianfranco (Niki), Andrew (Jessica), Erika (Mauro), Salvatore, Maria (Roberto), and Salvatore. She will be held dear in the hearts of her family, relatives, and many friends.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home, 211 Langstaff Road East, Thornhill, Ontario, L3T 3Z6. A Funeral Mass will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of St. Joseph, located within the funeral home. Entombment will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 33 Memory Gardens Lane, North York, Ontario, M2H 3C8.

Filippo Genovese

October 16, 1923 – December 21, 2024

Filippo Genovese, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on December 21, 2024, at the remarkable age of 101. Born on October 16, 1923, in the Sicilian town of Aquaficara, Filippo lived a long and extraordinarily healthy life, a testament to his resilience, spirit, and the joy he found in every moment. Though it is a bittersweet experience to have lost our husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, we find comfort in celebrating the extraordinary life he led.

Filippo’s journey began in 1955, when he left his hometown to work in the mines of France for two years, demonstrating his perseverance and dedication to building a better future. In 1957, he emigrated to Canada, where he married the love of his life, Caterina Genovese. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in love, resilience, and family. Filippo’s passion for gardening was a defining feature of his life. His flourishing gardens were a source of pride, beauty, and sustenance for his family and community.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Caterina Genovese, who stood by his side for decades, sharing a lifetime of cherished memories. Filippo is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Venera Triolo, her husband Lennie, their daughter Nadia, and her fiancé Sean. He is also survived by his son, Matteo Genovese, and his family. Matteo’s son, Phillip Genovese, and his wife Melisa, gave him the joy of a great-granddaughter, Emmy. Matteo’s daughter, Adriana Genovese, further brightened his days with her love and presence.

Visitation will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home, 211 Langstaff Road East, Thornhill, ON, on Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 9:00 am in the Chapel of St. Joseph at Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Blessed Virgin Mausoleum, 8361 Yonge Street, Thornhill, ON.

Lucia Maria Aguiar DaPonte Moreira

July 2, 1958 – December 18, 2024

It is with heavy hearts and a profound sense of loss that we announce the sudden passing of Lucia Maria Aguiar DaPonte Moreira on December 18, 2024, at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, at the age of 66. Born on July 2, 1958, in Rabo De Peixe, Azores, Portugal, she is reunited in Heaven with her caring parents, Manuel and Fernanda.

Loving wife of Leonardo for over 44 years of marriage. Beloved mother of Christina (Edward) and Derrick (Stephanie). Proud Vavó of Jenna and Liam. Adored sister of Jose (Desprazer), Fatima (late Antonio), Trinidad (late Jose), Eduarda (Joseph), Rosaria (Fernando), Antonio (Kathy), and Germano (Zelia).

Lucia will be sadly missed and held dear in the hearts of her nieces, nephews, and many friends. She will be lovingly remembered and never forgotten.

Bruno Tucci

August 1, 1939 – December 15, 2024

God called Bruno Tucci peacefully to his side on December 15, 2024, at the age of 85. Bruno is now reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Teresa.

Bruno was the loving father of Gregory (Antonietta), Angela, and Steven. He was the adored grandfather of Jessica Tucci (Robert), Gregory, and Alyssa. Bruno was a cherished brother to Domenic Tucci, Nick Tucci, and Tony Tucci. He will also join his late siblings, Rosa Bellissimo, Maria Ierullo, and Vito Tucci, in heaven.

Bruno will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his extended family, friends, and all who knew him.

September 2, 1970 – December 10, 2024

It is with sadness that we announce our dear mother Mary Ann Matias passed away in Vaughan, Ontario, with family by her side, at the age of 54. She was born in Baguio City, Philippines, to Victor Matias Sr. and Corazon Matias (née Benwic).

Loving mother of Aaron and Hazel (Zoren). Adored Lola to Zoey Iris. She is also survived by her siblings: Jocelyn (Kyle) Matias, Victor Jr. (Arlene) Matias, Rosemarie Lewellyn, and Analiza (Eufrocinio “Don”) Avila. She was a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Mary Ann’s life was filled with deep love for all of her family, her amazing friends, and her passion for cooking, playing the guitar, singing, and gardening. Her infectious spirit touched the lives of everyone she met in a beautiful way. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered always.

Giovanni Palmisano

With heavy hearts, the family of Giovanni Palmisano announces his passing on December 5, 2024, at the age of 88. Giovanni was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion.

Mario Felici

March 3, 1937 – December 5, 2024

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mario Felici on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at home at the age of 87. Born on March 3, 1937, in Rome, Lazio, Italy, Mario was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Mario leaves behind his devoted wife of 60 years, Angela, and his loving daughters Nadia (Dino) and Claudia (Dan). He was a proud Nonno to Lucas (Carly), Michael, Julia, and Jessica. He is also survived by his sister Maria Pia (late Amador) and brother Angelo (Elena). Mario was predeceased by his brothers Antonio, Claudio, and Augusto, and his sister Elide.

Mario will be remembered as a gentle and loving man, an example of kindness, selflessness, and strength. He was a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews and a beloved member of his family and community.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 2:00–4:00 pm and 6:00–8:00 pm at Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home, 211 Langstaff Road East, Thornhill, ON. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 10:30 am in the Chapel of St. Joseph at Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home. Michele Coccimiglio

January 6, 1938 - December 1, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Michele Coccimiglio in Toronto, at the age of 86. Born in Cosenza, Calabria, Italy, Michele immigrated to Canada at the age of 17, where he built a life filled with love, family, and community.

Michele was predeceased by his beloved wife, Maria (née Richichi) (2016). He is survived by his loving children, Antonietta (Bruno) and Frank (Tara), and was a proud Nonno to Anthony, Michael, Cristina, Tyler, and Daniel. Michele’s kindness, humor, and devotion to his family will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Cervilia Luigia De Luca

May 18, 1938 - November 29, 2024

Cervilia Luigia De Luca passed away peacefully on November 29, 2024, at the age of 86, after a brave battle with cancer. She is now reunited with her parents, Maria and Battista Cecol, her beloved husband Giorgio Gino (2009), and her cherished siblings.

She leaves behind her loving children, Helen and Dave, and her dear sister Nevia, along with sister-in-laws Vittorina (late Bovio) and Enrica (late Tony). Cervilia was a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews and will be missed by her extended family and friends in Canada, Italy, and around the world. She is also fondly remembered by her beloved cats, Tita and Luna.

Cervilia was a proud Canadian who touched the lives of everyone she met. She brought love and warmth to her work in the Italian community, her neighborhood, and as a volunteer at Firgrove Public School, where she supported her daughter Helen’s classroom and library.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home, 211 Langstaff Road East, Thornhill, ON, L3T 3Z6. The Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 1:30 PM in the Chapel of St. Joseph at Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home. Cremation will follow privately.
