Doreen is the loving wife of the late Thomas Lemuel Pickett and will be dearly missed by her children Kim Cicerella (Mike), T. Mervin Pickett, and Patty Rogers (Steve).

Grandma will always be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Kyle and Natasha Halliday and great-grandchildren Paisley and Maverick Halliday. She is also survived by her siblings H. Doreen was known for her selfless service to others. She was a dedicated cook and baker, always helping those in need. A faithful member of the community, Doreen extended her love to new families by inviting them into her home for dinner after church. She was a Sunday school teacher in Deep River, Ontario, and continued to help families in need, even after moving back to Uxbridge. Doreen also had a special bond with her grandchildren and was overjoyed by the arrival of her great-grandchildren.

The family is deeply grateful for the loving care provided by the staff at Midland Gardens LTC home, who became like family to Doreen in her final days.

A private family graveside ceremony will be held at Uxbridge Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the MS Society of Canada, Teen Challenge Canada, or ShareWord Global (formerly Gideons International).

Keith John Walker McLennan

September 20, 1938 ~ December 5, 2024 (Age 86)

Keith McLennan passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving wife, Phyllis, daughter Erin, and son-in-law Kevin at home. A long-time resident of Wellesley, Ontario, Keith later moved to Douglas Crossing Retirement Home in Uxbridge, Ontario.

Known for his smile and his happy-go-lucky demeanor, Keith fought a long and courageous battle with his health, but never let his infectious smile waver. His love for Phyllis spanned 52 years, and he was a fun-loving dad who always brought laughter and a little bit of mischief into every moment.

As a long-haul truck driver, Keith traveled far and wide, developing a deep love for driving. His favourite place was behind the wheel and on the open road. Later, he and Phyllis built a successful landscaping and snow plowing business together, where Keith’s strong work ethic and dedication shone brightly. Even into his 80s, Keith continued to drive a dump truck because he loved it so much.

Keith had many hobbies that brought him great joy, particularly his passion for classic cars and attending car shows with family and friends. He could often be found in a parade, top down, enjoying the ride. Keith was also a huge hockey fan, especially of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Everywhere Keith went, he was sure to know someone, or they knew him. He was always willing to lend a hand and help others. Though he will be deeply missed, Keith's legacy of kindness, laughter, and his jolly demeanor will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Keith will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Phyllis McLennan, daughter Erin Arsenault (nee McLennan), son-in-law Kevin Arsenault, son David McLennan, daughter Annette McLennan, grandson Matthew McLennan, and many close friends who were like family.

Keith requested that his life be celebrated and remembered fondly without a formal funeral service. His family appreciates the love and support from all who knew him. In honour of Keith’s spirit, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers or donations, you spread a little love and kindness in the world — and, of course, share a smile as big as Keith’s.

Keith and his family are deeply grateful for the many medical professionals who supported him throughout his journey, and to the wonderful staff and residents at Douglas Crossing, who welcomed him with warmth and care.

Maureen (Smith) Lake

July 27, 1938 - November 25, 2024

Our beloved Maureen passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of her family, on Monday, November 25, 2024, at the age of 86. She will also be fondly remembered by extended family members Margaret, Nigel, Keira, Daniel, Casey, and their families, and missed dearly by her sister Jean (Peter).

Born in London, England, just before World War II, Maureen was raised by her parents Kitty and Bert alongside her older sister Jean. The family later moved to Exeter, where Maureen met her husband Fred while working as a hairdresser. Fred, stationed nearby with the army, quickly became the love of her life. While raising their three children, Maureen returned to school and qualified as a nurse. In a life-changing move, the family emigrated to Canada, where Maureen continued her nursing career and built a happy life with Fred until his passing in 1992.

After Fred’s passing, Maureen transitioned her career to become a unit secretary at York Central Hospital, where she worked until the age of 73. She formed many lifelong friendships and enjoyed traveling with loved ones. Even in retirement, Maureen’s caring spirit was evident in her volunteer work with Inn From the Cold in Newmarket. Never idle, she spent her final months knitting scarves for her loved ones.

Maureen will be remembered as an exceptionally loving and supportive Mum, Grandma, and GiGi. Her wisdom, sometimes unfiltered advice, and love of conversation left an indelible mark on those who knew her. She will be forever loved and deeply missed.

Cremation has been entrusted to Low & Low Funeral Home in Uxbridge. A celebration of Maureen's life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced. As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Inn From the Cold in Newmarket would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Daniela Maria Plastina (Keenan) Ballantyne

April 7, 1976 - November 29, 2024

BALLANTYNE, Daniela Maria Plastina (née KEENAN) of Port Perry, Ontario, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends on November 29th, after a long and difficult journey following her cancer reoccurrence earlier this year. Daniela was 48. She is survived by her husband Scott, her three beautiful children Alexandra, Daniel, and Olivia, her father Daniel Keenan, her stepmother Valerie Keenan, and her dearest siblings Gabriela and Michael along with their partners Martin Kepa and Yu (Tia) Tian.

Daniela was born on April 7, 1976, to Daniel and Denise Keenan. She lived throughout the Greater Toronto Area, spending her formative years in Aurora, Ontario, where she attended Cardinal Carter Catholic High School. Daniela went on to study Criminal Psychology at the University of Toronto. Upon graduation, she worked for several companies before achieving her dream job as an Intelligence Analyst with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, where she was deeply respected and loved by her colleagues.

Daniela met her husband Scott during her university studies, and they married on June 7, 2003, at Oakview Terrace after what she lovingly described as a rather “extended” courtship period. They initially lived in Newmarket for 10 years, where they welcomed their children, created cherished memories, and built lifelong friendships. In 2015, they moved to a quiet rural property between Port Perry and Uxbridge, where Daniela embraced rural living and built a loving home with Scott, raising their magnificent children.

Daniela had many loves, but her greatest joy was the quiet moments spent with her family—watching movies with her children or sitting peacefully on the back porch holding hands with Scott to the sound of birds. Her strength and determination were inspiring, especially during her seven-year battle with cancer. Even as the illness returned in late 2023, she showed unwavering courage and devotion to her family, surpassing every expectation with grace.

Daniela had a warm, beautiful smile, and an infectious laugh. She was beloved by all who met her and will be deeply missed. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Mount Sinai Hospital (Sinai Fund - Highest Priority Needs) in her memory would be greatly appreciated by the family. They also extend heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and doctors in the Emergency Unit, Intensive Care Unit, and 12th floor South Wing who supported Daniela during her final weeks.
