It is with sadness that we announce the passing of David Wilmer Barber. Dave passed away peacefully in the afternoon at Markham Stouffville Hospital on January 30, 2025, at the age of 79.

Beloved husband of Carinda Barber for 58 wonderful years. Loving father to Pam (Jeff), Carolyn, Dave (Marie), and Richard (Tiffany). Cherished grandfather of James and Eleanor.

Dave will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends for his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love.

Eunice Winnifred (Pitman) Gammage

September 26, 1942 – February 1, 2025

It is with deep sadness that the family of Eunice Winnifred Gammage (née Pitman) announce her peaceful passing at Lennox & Addington County General Hospital, Napanee, on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the age of 82.

Eunice was the beloved wife of the late William A. Ross (d. March 27, 2022). She will be lovingly remembered by their children, Darlene (James Moritz), Susan (Dr. James Hadden), and Robert. Cherished grandmother to Kathleen, Lauren, Elliot, Jenna, Benjamin, and Jocelyn. Proud great-grandmother to Jamie and Charlie.

Eunice is survived by her dear sister, Sandy (James), of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.

Eunice’s strength and energy were truly remarkable. She was always ready and willing to lend a hand to family and friends. She preferred her winters in warmer climates, enjoyed a good thrift shop find, a lively game of dominos with her girlfriends, and the salty air of Nova Scotia. She also made the very best raspberry jam.

Diane Margaret (O'Leary) May

May 4, 1950 – February 3, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Diane Margaret May at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa, on Monday, February 3, 2025, at the age of 74.

Diane will be forever loved and missed by her sons, Matthew (Wendy) and Shawn (Sara), and her cherished grandchildren, Tyler, Devon, and Lyla. She is also survived by her brother, Mike O’Leary (Sue), and her sister, Sue Mitchell (late Paul).

Diane’s beloved Don brought her great joy in the final chapter of her life. Though their time together was short, it was among the happiest moments she ever experienced.

Diane’s passion for knitting helped create countless cherished memories. Through her needles, she expressed love, warmth, and generosity—gifts that will continue to bring comfort for generations to come.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Lakeridge Health for their dedication and compassion in making Diane’s time there comfortable and dignified.

Pamela Roseann Smythe (née Smith)

November 27, 1954 – February 9, 2025

Pamela Roseann Smythe passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2025, at the age of 70.

Beloved wife of 50 years to Michael. Devoted mother to Leah Ann (David) and Matthew (Marierose). Cherished grandmother to Jameson, Elisabeth, and Cora.

Predeceased by her mother, Virginia; father, Lawrence; stepfather, Ronald; and sister, Dawn (Brian). She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Laurie (Tom) and step-sisters Cindy (Dave) and Holly (Keith).

Pam will be remembered for her positivity, passion for life, love for her family, and generous nature. She was an avid cook, baker, and gardener. She enjoyed competing with several Dragon Boat teams and was deeply involved with the Girl Guides of Canada for many years. Above all, she treasured each and every moment with her grandchildren and showered them with love at every opportunity.

Joyce Ann (Nageleisen) Porter

February 21, 1932 – January 25, 2025

Peacefully at Sunrise of Aurora on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the age of 92. Joyce is survived, loved, and deeply missed by her daughter Sarah (Travis). She is now reunited with her cherished husband, Don, and beloved son, Shawn (Terri).

The youngest of ten siblings, Joyce grew up in Windsor, ON, and always remembered her roots, frequently and fondly referring to her days at Walkerville Collegiate and her family home on Lincoln Rd.

Educated as a nurse in London, ON, Joyce spent her early years with Don in northern Ontario, working as an RN in Huntsville and later in Sault Ste. Marie. Her skills were put to good use when she cared for her father after he was bitten by a rabid skunk(!), and later when he had a stroke. She continued nursing until Shawn was born, at which point she dedicated herself to being a loving and supportive mother—always encouraging, always pushing, and always there for her family.

Joyce’s dedication to her children gave Sarah the courage to explore new experiences and passions in life, for which she remains grateful to this day.

In retirement, Joyce and Don settled in Cobourg, where she embraced her passion for learning and mentorship. She became an in-school mentor and was recognized as “Mentor of the Year” by Big Brothers in 2004. She was an active member of the Probus Club and Trinity United Church.

Joyce enjoyed listening to Neil Diamond, reading, lunches in town, and winning at euchre. She loved her dog Zoe and the laughter shared with her children. Though she and Don traveled often, she had a dreadful sense of direction! Most of all, she cherished the times when her children visited—laughing together in a sunny backyard, sharing a glass of wine, and watching Shawn create joyful chaos in the kitchen.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the palliative team at Southlake Hospital and the compassionate staff at Sunrise of Aurora for their loving care and support.

Wilma Maxine (McCartney) Midgley

June 10, 1935 – January 29, 2025

Peacefully, on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry, at the age of 89.

Wilma (née McCartney) was the beloved wife of the late Lawrence (2010). Loving mother of Kim (Jim (Dick)) Thomson, Larry (Carol), Julie (Terry) Till, and Kelly (Will) Remender. Proud grandmother of Mindy (Chris), Traci (Brian), Clinton (Rebecca), Evan (Ashley), Lauren (Zac), Carlie (Taylor), Travis, and Shelby (Ryan). Cherished great-grandmother to nine. Predeceased by her grandson, Joel.

Wilma was the fourth of twelve children born to William and Olive McCartney. The family maintained close ties over the years through reunions, weddings, and cherished “sisters’ lunches.” She was a dear sister to Ruth Underwood, Carol Cleverdon, Vicky Popowich, Barb, Bill, Dan, Mary Heber, and was predeceased by Dorothy Tippett, Phyllis Selby, Hazel, and Gail Harper. Also survived by her sister-in-law, Carol Meek, and predeceased by her brother-in-law, Allan.

Wilma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had a fantastic sense of humor and was known for making the best apple pie. An exemplary homemaker, she was also a talented athlete, enjoying baseball and bowling. She was an active member of the Port Perry Legion Women’s Auxiliary and the Greenbank Lions Club.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at West Shore Retirement Living, Oak Ridges Hospice, and Dr. Bibby for their compassion, care, and support.

William John Pereschuk

June 15, 1935 – January 30, 2025

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of William John Pereschuk, who died peacefully at Markham-Stouffville Hospital on January 30, 2025, at the age of 89, after a brief battle with cancer.

Bill was predeceased by his first wife, Charlotte (1986), his second wife, Leona (2019), and his brother, Peter (1950). He is survived by his loving siblings Russell (Doris) and Joyce (late Barry).

Devoted father to Bill Jr. (Janet), David, and Leo (Julia). Cherished grandfather to Alex, Amber, Jermain, Amahria, Tate, and Leia.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the amazing staff at Douglas Crossing, which was Bill’s home for the past 6½ years.

WEBB, Peggy Joan (Bradley) Webb

February 22, 1931 ~ January 21, 2025

Passed away at the Uxbridge Hospital on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at the age of 93 years. Wife of the late Keith Webb (d.2012). Loved and remembered by her children Patty Green (Paul), John (Ewa), Jim, Peter (Jacquie), Susan, and Joan Vanderwal (Ron). Also missed by her grandchildren Tyler (Susan), Shauna, Ashley (Chris), Kyle, Voyslav, Craig and Dale and by her great grandchildren Isaiah, Katie, Jackson and Sloan. Predeceased by her daughter-in-law Judie, son-in-law Dunc McTavish and sister Eleanor Marcy (John). Fondly remembered by nieces and nephews, who were dear to her.

Peggy was a city girl who, with five kids in tow and the sixth on the way, bravely made the move to a farm north of Uxbridge in 1963. She quickly learned the ropes of farm life, learning to drive both a car and a tractor, all while managing a growing family.

The move to the country had her quickly adapt, transitioning from office work to becoming both a farmer and a factory worker at places like Comco and Emerson Electric. She was a familiar face at many local events, always there to support Uxbridge gatherings, church bazaars, community lunches and suppers. She never missed a parade!

The wife of a war veteran, Peggy supported services of the Uxbridge Royal Canadian Legion, honouring those who served and always showing her respect for those who sacrificed so much.

A true animal lover, luck was on the side of any stray that found its way to her. Her many friends were a testament to her kind and caring personality.

Cremation has been entrusted to Low & Low Funeral Home, Uxbridge (905-852-3073). A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 170, 109 Franklin Street, Uxbridge on Sunday, February 23, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
