GRANDY, Albert James Grandy -
1937-2024

Albert James Grandy peacefully passed surrounded by his family at the age of 87 on July 10th, 2024 at Lakeridge Health – Ajax/Pickering Hospital.

Loving husband to Janice and widowed to the late Sheila (2007).

Dedicated father to Rosie (David) and Wayne (Lynn). Adored Poppy to Katelyn (Mike), Kimberly (Steve), Matthew (Ceiliah), Deleta, Frank and Leigh Ann.

Beloved great-grandfather to Savannah, Sophia, Albany, Georgia, Baby Austin on the way, Aria, Carter and Callie.

Dear brother to Sheila and the late Cecil.

He will be missed by his extended family and friends. The Grandy family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Lakeridge Health – Ajax/Pickering Hospital for their care and support during Albert’s time there.

THOMPSON, Alex Henry Thompson - It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alex Thompson surrounded by his family in his 67th year in Ajax, Ontario, on July 10, 2024.

Loving husband to Patti for 39 years.

Cherished father to Lindsay (Paul), Megan and Abbey (Mike).

Proud Papa to Ben and Iris. Son of John, the late Pat and the late step mother, Barbara. Brother to Kay (Keith).

Son-in-law to Arlene (the late Bud). Brother-in-law to Rob (Debbie) and Charlene (Barry).

Much loved by all his nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his extended family and many friends.

GRIFFITH, Angela Karen Griffiths - Passed away on July 7th at the age of 61 after a valiant struggle with cancer.

She leaves behind her husband Brad Stickland who nursed her through her worst times with MS and cancer; her mother Lily; her sister Kris and brother in law Ron Lynas.

Predeceased by her father Brian. Angie was big sister and best friend to Kris and Ron and will be deeply missed. Lily was with Angie when she passed and was a tremendous comfort to her over these past many months.

She will be missed by her brothers in law, Tony and Dennis Stickland. She leaves her Aunts Lenny, Helen and Jane.

Predeceased by Aunts Stella, Jenny, Anne and Marie and Uncles Bill and Ron. Angie will be missed by her family of many cousins, her faithful friends who have stood by her over her past difficult times, her neighbours and everyone she had befriended and helped over the years. Angie received her BA from U of T and MBA from York University.

She began her career at Laurentian Bank, worked at IBM and PWC and made many long lasting friendships there. Angie loved to travel and enjoyed many trips with Brad and her friends and visiting her cousins Majorie, Teresa and James in England.

Angie loved music and most recently enjoyed as many concerts as able, performed by Classic Albums Live which included her very special cousin Des. Some of the members of CAL even performed for a private concert at Angie’s for her 61st birthday organized by Brad.

The family will always be grateful for this. She loved her cats especially Milo, her white angel who turned up at her door and stayed by her side throughout her illness.

EASTMAN, Leila Margaret (née Grant) Eastman - 76, daughter of the late Rufus Grant, Ann’s Grove, Guyana, and the late Rosaline Grant (née Richards), passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on June 29, 2024, at Lakeridge Health Hospital, Oshawa, Ont.

Leila was a loving, caring and nurturing mother and grandmother, a devoted wife, a cherished sister, a beloved aunt, a respectful relative, and a loyal & trustworthy friend.

She was active in her church and an outgoing and supportive member of the local Guyanese community. The matriarch of the family, she exemplified grace, dignity, and beauty and was known for her kind heart. She loved her life, and she loved the people who were a part of it.

Together with her husband, George, Leila left Guyana in the 1970s to build a better life for their four children and family in Toronto, Canada. Passionate about providing for her family, she pursued a career in healthcare, obtaining her certification from Centennial College.

She worked for over 30 years with the City of Toronto at Bendale Acres Long-Term Care Home. Leila is survived by her devoted husband, George Lennox Eastman; her loving sons, Granville Cleveland Eastman, Colin Stanislaus Eastman, Michael Peter Eastman; and her cherished daughter, Tricia Eastman Wyles. She also leaves behind her brothers,

Deryck Grant and Robert Ashton Grant, her treasured grandchildren, Kiara Rosaline Eastman and Grant Marcus Wyles, and her loving godson, Courtney Junior Grant. She was predeceased by her father, Rufus Grant, her mother, Rosaline Grant, her maternal grandfather, Edward Richards, and her grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Richards (née Lewis).

Visitation will take place at McEACHNIE FUNERAL HOME on Friday, July 5th, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 6th, at 1:30 PM at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Ajax, Ontario.

“We were blessed to know her; she will be deeply missed and always remembered. Loving mother and grandmother, wife, sister, daughter, cousin, aunt, and friend, rest in sweet eternal peace."

NOLAND-STEFANUK, Jean Nolan-Stefanuk
1926 - 2024

 

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Nolan-Stefanuk at the age of 97 on July 3, 2024 at Viva Pickering Retirement Community.

Twice widowed to the loving late John (1996) and late Maurice (2016).

Beloved mom to Kathleen, John (Tracy) and Maureen.

Cherished Nana to John Michael, Liam, Matthew and Brendan. Dear sister to her brother and 4 sisters. Daughter to the late Mary and late Frank.

Jean will be greatly missed by her extended family and friends out West as well as Anne and her family in Washington, DC. 

The family would like to thank the Viva Pickering Retirement Community Staff and Jean’s family doctor, Dr. Ayesha for their wonderful care and support. 

The Committal and Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Trenton, ON and will take place at a later date.

MANLEY, Charles David Manley - Died June 30th in his 98th year of later stage Alzheimer’s.

Chuck enjoyed many years of retirement spending time with family and friends and at the cottage on Rice Lake.

Chuck was predeceased by wife Joan (2023) and will be remembered by his children and step children Michael (Holly), Christine (David), Craig (Kimberley), Bryan (Yvonne), Ruth and Mary (Gord).

Grandfather to Adam (Amanda), Aaron (Liz), Branwen (Erik), Jordan (Amanda), Corey (Michelle), Laura, Ian, Andrew and Isaac.

Great grandfather to Bekah, Carys, Imogen, Stellan, Jack and James.

Chuck will rest with Joan at Pine Ridge Memorial Gardens.

LINDO, Maxwell Valintine Lindo  -  It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Maxwell Valintine Lindo on Monday, July 1, 2024, at the age of 57.

Dear husband to Bernadette.

Proud father to Arin, Amber (Bryan), Sydney, and Siobhan.

Cherished grandfather to Isaiah, Layla, Savanna, Xaine, Kairo, and Kiyah.

SALAZAR, Monica Salazar  -
March 15, 1927 – June 27, 2024

Monica Salazar (nee Figueira) passed away peacefully at the age of 97 predeceased by her husband, Francis.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Greg (Sandra), Brian (Carolyn) and Cheryl (predeceased Michael).

Granny will be missed by Jeremy (Sarah), Jeffrey (Janine), Troy (Kendall), Colin, Trevor (Kristy), Joshua (Nicole), Lucas, and Adrianna (Kevin), and 12 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Monica will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews and brother.

She is predeceased by her parents and 10 brothers and sisters.

Monica was born in San Fernando, Trinidad and moved her family to Canada in 1966. She worked very hard to make a new life for her family and became a real estate agent and finally retired at the age of 75.

Although her memory failed in this life, we are sure she has gone on with her memories fully intact.

Monica’s family would like to thank all the staff at Winbourne Park for the care and support she received.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Kidney Foundation.

Family and friends will be received for visitation at the McEACHNIE FUNERAL HOME on Thursday, July 4 from 5 – 8 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on July 8 with visitation from 1:30 p.m.

SAVILLE, Gordon David  -  Born September 21, 1940 died peacefully June 27, 2024 at the Lakeridge Health Ajax Pickering Hospital surrounded by his devoted family.

Survived by his wife Linda, his 3 beloved children and spouses, Terry (Nancy), Lisa (Al Clutton) and Tim (Annie), 9 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren, with one more on the way.

He’ll be dearly missed by his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lynda & Willy VanDoleweerd, Gay & Brian Fletcher and their families. Predeceased by his parents Gordon & Helen Saville and his brother Jim Harvey.

He retired as a Detective from Metro Toronto Police Force, MSS in 1993, fondly referred to as 54 there, with 33.5 years service.

Dave has resided in Ajax, ON since 1967, a natural social butterfly, loving his food, fun and friends.

Visitation is at McEACHNIE FUNERAL HOME, 28 Old Kingston Road, Pickering Village, Ajax, ON, on Wednesday, July 3rd from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Service is on Thursday, July 4th at 11:00 a.m. in their Chapel, followed by Interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 305 Erskine Avenue, Toronto, ON.

SPENCER, Wayne William Spencer  -  It is with heavy heart we announce the sudden death of Wayne Spencer (Virgo), on Monday June 24, 2024 at age 50.

He was full of love, laughter and energy.

He touched the lives of all who knew him. He will be forever remembered for his kindness, and impact in the world.

He was predeceased by His mother Irene Giles.

Wayne leaves behind ex-spouse Michelle Hawkins (Liam, Riley) and Ritschel family members. His sister Tammy and great nephew Dominic, nephew Jason (Olivia), and niece Keira (Jordan).

Father Jonathan (Gloria) their children Justin (Ashley), Tania (Thomas) and all his nieces and nephews.
