Darlene Diane Frizzle (née Brown) passed away on March 18, 2025, at the age of 78, after a courageous battle with a brief illness.
Born on August 2, 1946, in St. Catharines, Ontario, to Vera and Willard Brown, Darlene was one of five sisters. She spent her early years in the Niagara area, surrounded by the love and laughter of her sisters and cousins. Darlene shared a special bond with her twin sister Marlene, as well as her other sisters Geraldine, Marilyn, and Joan. Together, they formed a lifelong bond of love and support, which recently included a daily tradition of competing in Wordle, keeping them connected and laughing every day.
In her adult life, Darlene moved to Ajax to start a family, where she was welcomed into a close-knit community of neighbours and friends. Her warmth and caring nature left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. Darlene had a quiet strength and selfless spirit; even during difficult times, she was more concerned about others than herself. Whether she was sewing Halloween costumes or personal shopping for her grandkids, Darlene found joy in helping others. Her dry, humorous quips were a constant source of laughter for those around her.
She cherished her time at the family cottage, where some of the happiest moments were spent, including annual birthday celebrations surrounded by loved ones. She also found peace in her walks along the Ajax waterfront with her close friends Sara and Chris. Darlene was deeply grateful for the unwavering love and support of her Frizzle family. They were a constant source of strength, always there to help with anything needed.
Darlene was a devoted wife to Blake for 46 years until his passing in July 2020, and a loving mother to John and Carolyn. She was incredibly proud of her children and took great joy in watching them grow and start families of their own. She was also a cherished mother-in-law to Madelaine and Jason, always offering her love and support. Darlene’s greatest joy came from her grandchildren—Keston, Carter, Lydia, and Margot. They were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
A service to celebrate Darlene’s life will be held at McEachnie Funeral Home, 28 Old Kingston Road, Ajax, ON on Monday, March 24, from 4-7 p.m. A small ceremony will follow, where Darlene will be laid to rest alongside her parents in St. Catharines at Victoria Lawn Cemetery, 431 Queenston St, on April 5, 2025, at 10am.

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved Brian William Fairbrother, who left us suddenly on March 20th, 2025, at the age of 64. Brian was born on April 29th, 1960, in Scarborough, Ontario, and passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of his life, his wife Sharon.
Brian’s spirit was a light to all who knew him. His infectious smile and gentle nature could warm the coldest of days. His kindness, patience, and unwavering humor were just a few of the qualities that made him the extraordinary man he was. Above all, he was a devoted husband, a loving father, a sweet grandpa, and a cherished brother—roles he embraced with a full heart and a generous soul.
Brian had many passions, each one reflecting his love for life. Whether it was fishing, metal detecting, making wine, solving crossword puzzles, or traveling the world with his wife, he found joy in the little things. His love of hockey and baseball was matched only by the affection he had for his beloved pets, Fluffy and Buddy, who were always by his side.
A heavy duty truck master mechanic by trade, Brian found fulfillment in his work, always speaking of his deep love for cars. His skill and dedication in his career were a testament to his character.
Brian leaves behind his devoted wife Sharon, with whom he shared 25 beautiful years; his daughters Carly and Heather, and their husbands Ethan and Jon; his precious grandson Brighton, who brought him so much joy; his loving sisters Kim and Lori; and his stepmother Melody and father-in-law Wayne. He is now reunited in heaven with his parents, Bill and Jean, his stepfather Don, and his mother-in-law Joan.
Brian and Sharon’s love was like no other, and that love will last forever. True soulmates. Though we grieve his loss, we take solace in the knowledge that Brian's love will always stay with us, shining as a guiding light in our lives. To know Brian was to love him, and all who loved him have gained a guardian angel.

Shirley Wain Sorenson (née Thompson) passed away peacefully in Whitby, Ontario, on March 15, 2025. She is survived by her loving family: her beloved children, Donald (Susan), Grant (Brenda), Dianne (Greg), and Karen, as well as her grandchildren, Jennifer, Andrew, Noelle, Lindsey, Jackie, Roy, Elise, Austin, Jill, Jenny, Alyse and Trey and great-grandchildren, Anderson, Isla, Blake, Logan, Bowie and Olivia. She will be deeply missed by her extended family and friends.
Shirley lived a full and vibrant life. Born in Montreal, Quebec, she later moved with her late husband, Roy Morris, and their four young children to the Scarborough Bluffs in Ontario as Roy pursued his dream of growing his career. She remained in Ontario for the rest of her life, eventually settling in Uxbridge with her late second husband, Don Sorenson, where she created countless cherished memories with her children, grandchildren, and many dear friends.
Some of Shirley’s happiest moments were spent gathering friends and family around her table. She took great joy in cooking for as many people as she could fit into her home, always finding a reason to celebrate–whether it was a holiday, a birthday, or simply the change of seasons. Many will fondly remember her Santa’s Village collection, which filled her home with warmth and festive spirit year after year.
She was a talented quilter, needleworker, and seamstress. Anyone who knew Shirley can likely picture her working on her latest crochet blanket or quilt–or, if we flash back a few decades, knitting dresses and outfits for her grandchildren. She could usually be found in front of the TV, sipping a glass of white wine and answering Jeopardy! questions while she sewed. In recent years, she lovingly donated many of her handmade creations to hospitals and charitable organizations.
And Shirley’s versatility extended far beyond textiles. Well into her 60s and 70s, she took on home renovations, tackling projects like replacing floors and upgrading bathrooms with impressive craftsmanship. One of her greatest accomplishments was designing and building a stunning stone patio, cutting each stone herself and creating a beautiful pond complete with a waterfall and fish.
She also loved to travel. Even after settling in Ontario, Shirley and the family would often head back east to spend summers on Lake L’Achigan or take winter trips to ski at Gray Rocks. Later in life, she continued to explore the world with Don–by boat and plane–always eager for new adventures. She cherished her winters in Florida, driving there and back each year, making stops along the way to visit the many friends she had met over the years. We’ll all miss her returning to Canada with a van full of yarn, ready for her next project.
Throughout her 90 years, Shirley built many cherished friendships and connections. She embraced life with a lighthearted spirit, always finding joy in its simple pleasures. She was easy to be around, always ready for a good laugh, and approached every moment with an open mind and heart. Shirley touched countless lives and will be missed but forever remembered by all who knew her.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in Shirley’s memory.

In Loving Memory
Another angel has risen with no regrets, taking with her plenty of loving memories and lots of smiles.
Irene Margaret Scott, beloved wife of the late James Scott and mother to the late Craig Scott, will be happily reunited once again. We are saddened to see our loving mother, who was about to celebrate her 96th birthday, leave us, but we will carry so many cherished moments close to our hearts.
Her two daughters, along with their very supportive and cherished husbands and families, Cheryl Dayman (David) and Sandra O’Hare (Kerry), and her four grandchildren Mallory, Matthew (Jillian), Deena, and Bryce (Kristy), along with her funny and lovable great-granddaughter Kallie, will always remain in her heart. Our abundant memories will be shared for years to follow.
Our hearts are overwhelmed with gratitude for all the care and love Mom received over the years from her family and friends near and far. Thank you so much for sharing a lifetime together.
Following Mom’s wishes, a family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
We have all lost a very special man.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Art Walker on March 10, 2025, at the age of 77, in the ICU at Ajax Pickering Hospital after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis and a recent bout of Influenza A. As hard as he fought, it was a battle he could not win. His beloved wife of 52 years, Janet, along with his loving daughter and son, Larissa and Aaron, were by his side until he was finally at rest.
He adored and was deeply loved by his cherished grandchildren Ayden, Johnny, James, and Leia, who will forever miss their Gramps.
Art will be sadly missed by his daughter-in-law Lalita and son-in-law Jay, as well as his nephews—whom he always considered his younger brothers—Brian (Kim), Bob (Chris), and Bernie (Shirley). He will also be missed by his brothers-in-law Steve, Barry (Mimi), and Jim (Kathy), along with many more dear nephews, nieces, family members, and friends.
He was predeceased by his father Jack, his mother Isobel, his brother John, his sisters Joan and Margaret, his nephew Glenn, and his niece Brenda.
Art dedicated his career to the Canadian National Railway, working from 1971 until his retirement in 2007. He will surely be remembered and missed by many colleagues he met over the years.
As an avid sports fan, Art was never shy about his high praise for his Canes, Argos, and Blue Jays, while always keeping a joke ready at the expense of the Maple Leafs. He was also an enthusiastic outdoorsman who cherished fishing trips with his children, grandchildren, nephews, and friends in Nakina, Gowganda, and across the waters of Pigeon Lake.
Art had a deep love for gardening, taking pride in the plants at his home and trailers. He could often be found chasing squirrels and raccoons away from his birdfeeders with a water gun or garden hose. Known for his quick wit and sarcastic humor, he brought endless laughter to his family and friends.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend, and will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff in the Emergency Department and ICU at Lakeridge Health Ajax Pickering Hospital for their compassionate care.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Art’s honor in the warmer months. The family will share details when the time comes.
In memory of Art, donations to The Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, or Brain Injury Canada would be greatly appreciated.
It is with tremendous heartbreak that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, Susan, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love.
Her two daughters, Holly and Brooke, were by her side, holding her hands as she passed over. She was a loving, doting, and inspiring mother to Holly and Brooke, and a cherished mother-in-law to Brooke’s husband, Patryk. She was also a proud and devoted grandmother to her precious granddaughter, Cassidy.
Susan was a dear friend to many from all walks of life and a beloved aunt to her nephews and nieces.
Born in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1946—just one year before the famous 'alien landing'—Susan lived a life filled with adventure, grace, and curiosity. She dedicated her career to shaping young minds as a passionate and creative primary school teacher. A lifelong learner, she found joy in reading, traveling, and embracing new experiences. The ocean was her sanctuary, and for the past 12 winters, she found happiness basking in the sun in St. Augustine, Florida.
Susan was a compassionate activist, always standing up for animal rights and important human causes. She instilled these values in her daughters, teaching them the importance of action and advocacy.
Donations in Susan’s memory to an animal protection charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
Mom believed: ‘Instead of complaining about things, do something about it - take action.’
