It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Elaine Dunn, surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. At 100 years of age, Elaine was the beloved wife of 60 years and best friend of Frank Mervin Dunn, who passed in 2011. Elaine was the wonderful mother of Stephen (Linda Rume), Frank (Joanne), Cathy Mullan (Jim), Susan (Erroll Lundy), and Edward (Marie Caza), and the late Gregory Thomas Dunn. She was a treasured grandmother of Adam (Shin), Andrew (Hailey Black), Alan (Pam), Sean, Michael (Christine Gibson), and Warren (Gabrielle Parsons) and a great-grandmother of Lukas, Ryder, Meredith, and Emilia.
Elaine is also survived by her sister Margaret Schmidt (Chuck) of California and her sisters-in-law Ramona Lahey, Rosemary Lafreniere, and Helen Hillier, as well as her many nieces and nephews. Elaine was predeceased by her parents Stephen and Lillian Lahey and her siblings Bert, Barney, and Bill Lahey, Betty Groff, Martha Rutherford, and Nancy Bayer.
Elaine was raised in Midland, Ontario, and on the family farm in Port McNichol. When the Second World War broke out, she joined the effort by moving to Toronto to work at the York Arsenal and De Havilland Aircraft. Throughout her life, people were drawn to her pleasant and positive attitude, which she kept even to the end. Family was always first.
The family would like to thank the staff of Westney Gardens Retirement Residence, where Elaine lived since 2018, and the doctors, nurses, and PSWs of 2 East at the Ajax Pickering Hospital and 4 West at Lakeridge Health Whitby.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ajax Pickering Hospital Foundation or Serenity Renewal for Families (a charity founded by Elaine’s sister-in-law, Sister Louise Dunn, CND).

She was the devoted mother of Dana and Jason, and the cherished “Grammy” to Paige and Taylor and “Little Grandma” to Ethan and Dylan. Together with her husband Wally, she treasured time spent with family, whether in Ajax with Jay and Jen or on extended stays in Vancouver with Dana and Cory. On January 1st, 2025, at 12:25 PM, the love of my life, my best friend, and the kindest human, Pasquale (Patty) Cornacchia, passed away at the age of 60. My heart is shattered.
Patty, you gave me the most precious gifts, Michelle and Danielle. Together, we raised two strong, professional young women who love and care deeply for themselves and those around them. You have left beautiful footprints. I see your tremendous strength in them daily, and I know you would be proud of how they have united family and friends to honor your memory.
I will forever cherish every moment we shared—our laughter, tears, and adventures. From our Timmie's dates to our motorcycle rides across Ontario, your love enriched my life in countless ways. You were a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend.
Our journey together began on April 16, 1982, and continued through marriage, children, and countless shared joys and challenges. Your love for family, cars, and life’s simple pleasures brought happiness to everyone around you.
Patty, I now rest on your side of the bed, where your memory comforts me. You are survived by your loving spouse Francesca, daughters Michelle and Danielle (Jack Zingrone), and in-laws Dominic and Anna Tantillo. Your siblings Filomena (Carmelo), Antonietta (Frank), Angelina, Rocco (Gina), Ralph, Joe, and Cathy (Maciej), as well as nieces, nephews, and godchildren, will cherish your memory forever.
“Heavenly Father, we ask for your mercy and grace for Pasquale as he begins his journey into eternal life. Please bring him into your loving arms and grant him peace and rest. Comfort those left behind, with the promise of one day reuniting. Amen.”

I first met Elaine in high school. She was outgoing, had a great sense of humor, and was someone I was proud to call a friend. She was very close to my sisters Cathy and Mary, which led to her meeting our whole family. She attended many of our family get-togethers, and we loved having her there. She never complained about her struggles and set a great example of how to live with dignity and class.

Elaine brought light, love, and laughter into our lives. Despite her struggles with MS, she was the bravest, most positive, and generous person I have ever known. We were best friends all through high school and gave our teachers a run for their money. Nobody could make me laugh louder than Elaine! I am so sad that this wonderful girl is not here with us, but she will never leave our hearts. Anyone who was fortunate to meet Elaine is richer because of it. It’s so sad I couldn’t share one last precious moment with her, to let her know how much I loved her. ❤️❤️❤️
