Carley Yakeley (nee Seymour)
May 7, 1946 – December 4, 2024
Carley Anne Yakeley (nee Seymour) passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, after a brief illness, at the age of 78.
Carley was a dedicated nurse for over 35 years at both Bowmanville and Whitby General Hospital. Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Predeceased by her parents Everett and Muriel, brother Robert, and sister Rosalie.
Carley leaves behind her son Shane, grandson Marshall, and brothers Fred and Dan. She will be missed by Jacqueline and family.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
A visitation will take place at Mount Lawn Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, with a chapel service to follow at 1:00 PM. Burial will take place following the service at Mount Lawn Cemetery.

Maria Katharina Wickert, born in Venningen Pfalz, Germany, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at Extendicare, Oshawa, at the age of 92.
Reunited with her husband Horst (1992). Loving mother of Monika (Scott), Susan (Peter), Marcus (Christine), and the late Doris (2024). Beloved Oma of Tonya, Tyler, Siara (Stuart), Kelsey, James, Connor (Judy), Patrick, Danielle, and Isabelle. Proud UrgroĂźmutter to Theo, Anna, Reid, and Riley.
Maria was a caring homemaker who loved baking German cakes, eating good food, and spending summers at the cottage on Georgian Bay. She will remain always in our hearts and be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Mount Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, 21 Garrard Road, Whitby. Following the Memorial Service, the family invites you to join our Celebration of Life to share your favorite stories and memories of Maria.

Shirley Anne Purdy

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Elizabeth Ann Purdy (nee Bell), who peacefully passed away on December 7, 2024, at the age of 95. Shirley is predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Robert Wedell Purdy (1929–2017).
Born in Pickering, Ontario, in 1929, Shirley was the youngest child of Minnie and Len Bell and was predeceased by her three siblings: Marjorie, William, and Norman.
Shirley discovered her love for music early on, often joining her sister at dance halls along Kingston Road in the 1940s. It was at one such gathering where she met her future husband, Bob Purdy. Their love story began at the Spruce Villa in Whitby and blossomed into a life filled with shared dreams and family devotion.
Together, Shirley and Bob raised three children: Penny, Bob (Kathy), and Shelly. Their journey led them to various communities, including Southampton and Whitby, where they built a life centered on love, family, and hard work. Shirley’s dedication to her family was evident in her legendary Christmas gatherings and her culinary legacy, including her famous carrot cake.
Shirley was also a hardworking and dedicated community member, contributing to diverse roles throughout her career and volunteering efforts. She and Bob realized their dream by building the Deer Run Golf Course and Summer Country Trailer Park in Little Britain, combining their skills and passion to create a beloved haven.
Shirley is survived by her children Penny, Bob (Kathy), and Shelly; her grandchildren Nicole (Pat, decd), Ryan (Suzanna), Rachel (Dan), Vanessa (Tyler), Laura (Tera), Bob (Jen), Sebastian (Jallini), and Genevieve (Mark); and her great-grandchildren Olivia, Violet, Ivy, Griffin, Lochlain, Phyfer, Oben, and Maiori. Her legacy of love, family, and resilience will continue in all who knew her.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Chartwell Wynfield and to Shirley’s personal caregivers—Dara, Anne Marie, and Debbie—for their compassionate care and unwavering dedication.
A private interment will take place this Saturday, with a Celebration of Life to follow in the new year. Details will be provided at a later date.

Agnes Campbell

It is with deep sorrow and much love we mourn the passing of Mom/Grandma/Agnes.
Agnes passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024, at Hillsdale Terraces surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Jim Senior, her daughter, Linda, her son Jim (Marcia), grandchildren Amy (Shayne), Dylan (Emmett), and Kate, brother Billy, sisters Jean, Rachel (Alec), and Mary, and beloved dog, Bonnie. Predeceased by her parents, Annie and Johnny, sisters-in-law Marie and Sadie, and brothers-in-law Malcolm, Ed, and Jack. She will be greatly missed by her many nieces, nephews, and friends in Canada and in Scotland.
Agnes cherished the connections and friendships she made all throughout her life.
Agnes was an avid tennis enthusiast. She also enjoyed watching Coronation Street with her daughter Linda and would often seek out the spoilers from the UK so she had the latest scoop. Agnes was a member of the Oshawa Lawn Bowling Club with her husband Jim. They were a great team and had a lot of fun together, touring around Ontario to play on different bowling greens. She also enjoyed socializing with her girlfriends from the St. Andrew’s Club, going to events with them. Agnes was always looking for new recipes, attending cooking classes, and sharing her passion for cooking with others. She loved to read mysteries and true crime, and kept her law enforcement son Jim up to date on the latest crime news from the GTA.
Agnes was a wonderful person. We have fond memories of her beautiful voice singing with her lovely Scottish accent. Throughout her life, she had a keen eye for style, a great sense of humour, and a sharp mind for money matters. She was a trained typist and learned to make the most of new computer technologies. Agnes worked at TD Bank and later at WeeWatch, where she took care of young children. We loved to share a cup of tea and chat about what life was like in Scotland, history, and current events. Her grounded perspective and wise advice will be sorely missed, and we will always remember her with love and gratitude for the blessing she was in our lives. We will all miss her dearly.
So if you knew and were touched by our Agnes, we thank you for remembering her with us as the lovely, kind person she was.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Mount Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, 21 Garrard Road, in Whitby, ON, at 1:00 pm with a time to remember and celebration of her life to follow in the Arbor Lounge.

Scott Stephenson

Scott Stephenson passed away peacefully at home with his wife Nancy by his side. Scott was the loving husband of Nancy for over 46 years, proud father of Sam (Mike) and Tory (Dan), and a much-loved grandfather of Cameron. He was a cherished brother to Peter (Carolyn), Mike (Nancy), Mary Leigh (Jim), and Bob (Evelyn), and a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Scott was also a dear friend to too many to name.
Scott was the owner-operator of Stephensons’ Steering Specialists in Oshawa. A proud Hall of Fame and Lifetime member of the Oshawa Vikings Rugby Club, Scott could often be found around the club, where his presence and passion left a lasting legacy.
He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Family and friends will be received at Mount Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, 21 Garrard Road, Whitby (North of Hwy 2) on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, and on Friday, December 13, 2024, from 10:00 AM until the time of service in the chapel at 11:00 AM. Scott Stephenson

Scott Stephenson passed away peacefully at home with his wife Nancy by his side. Loving husband of Nancy for over 46 years, Scott was the proud father of Sam (Mike) and Tory (Dan) and much-loved grandfather of Cameron. He was the cherished brother of Peter (Carolyn), Mike (Nancy), Mary Leigh (Jim), and Bob (Evelyn) and the beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews. A dear friend to too many to name, Scott’s impact on the lives of those who knew him is immeasurable.
Scott was the owner-operator of Stephensons’ Steering Specialists in Oshawa. He was a proud Hall of Fame and Lifetime member of the Oshawa Vikings Rugby Club and could often be found at the club on any given day, sharing his love for rugby and camaraderie.

Sherry Cormier
October 12, 1943 - December 3, 2024
The family of Sherry Cormier announce with great sadness her sudden passing at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the age of 81, with her loving husband of 58 years, Gilbert, by her side.
Sherry was the beloved daughter of the late Frances Hamilton (nee Leigh) and the stepdaughter of the late Miller Hamilton. She was the cherished mom of Leigh-Anne Cormier and Theresa Boomhour (nee Cormier) (Scott) and the beloved grandma to Michelle Gopaul. Sherry was the loving sister of the late Ray Speaker (Sheila) and Karen Hamilton (Leon). She also leaves behind many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews who will miss her dearly.
Sherry faced many struggles during her time with us, battling fiercely with dignity and grace, and she had the kindest of hearts.

Doris Juliane Wickert
September 3, 1959 - November 30, 2024
Passed away suddenly but peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the age of 65, with her beloved children by her side. Doris was the loving daughter of Maria and Horst (1992) Wickert, cherished mother of Tonya and Tyler, and beloved Nana to Theodore and Anastasia.
Doris was the beloved sister of Monika (Scott), Susan (Peter), and Marcus (Christine) and a proud aunt to Siara (Stuart), Kelsey, Lisa, Anya (Nader), Vanessa (Drew), James, Connor (Judy), Patrick, Danielle, Isabelle, Taylor, and Daniel. She will be dearly missed by her family and close friends.
Fondly remembered for her love of the Toronto Maple Leafs and all things hockey, her passion for great rock music, her sassy no-nonsense attitude, and her infectious smile, Doris left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Visitation will be held at Mount Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery on Friday, December 13, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.

Craig John McHale
August 23, 1983 - December 2, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Craig John McHale, age 41, on December 2, 2024, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, after a courageous battle with cancer. Craig passed peacefully with his family by his side. He will be profoundly missed by his parents, Jane and John McHale; his younger sister, Katie; his younger brother, Jamie (Brittney); and his beloved nephews, Ian and Charlie. He will also be lovingly remembered by his aunts, uncles, and cousins in England and Scotland. Predeceased by his grandparents Elizabeth and John McHale, and Nancy and Richard Dunlop, Craig’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Whether it was organizing family outings, playing with his nephews, or offering his vast technological expertise, Craig was kind, thoughtful, and selfless. He faced his illness with bravery, never succumbing to self-pity. His resilience and positive spirit remain an inspiration to all who knew him.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Lakeridge Health, St. Michael’s Hospital, and Saint Elizabeth Health for their compassionate care. While we grieve Craig’s loss, we are forever grateful for the time we had with him.
