Janet Lenore Tomkins

October 3, 1957 – November 12, 2024

It is with deep heartbreak and sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Janet Lenore Tomkins. Leaving this world too soon, Janet passed away peacefully in the early hours of November 12, 2024, at Peterborough Regional Hospital, with the love of her life by her side. In her final days, she was surrounded by those who loved her most.

Janet is survived by her husband of 48 years, Wally. She was a loving mother to David (deceased), Christopher, and Sarah (Trevor). As a cherished Nanny, she is mourned by Nathan, Reid, Ainsley, Dustin, Alyssa, Dylan, Lincoln, Rebecca, Jessica, Erica, and Matthew. Janet will also be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her daughter Sarah's closest friends, who over the years became an extension of her family.

Janet's greatest joy in life was her family. She truly valued the quality time spent together. With a wonderful sense of humor and a playful spirit, she often brought joy to those she loved the most. Those who knew her experienced her kind heart and unwavering support through both good times and bad.

Without Janet, our lives have been forever changed. Her absence has created an unexplainable emptiness. However, she will live on in our hearts, where her goodness, caring nature, and wisdom will always remain.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janet’s memory to The Peterborough Hospital or The Kidney Foundation.

Monica Turansky

June 26, 1937 - November 9, 2024

Passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the age of 87. Monica was the beloved wife of the late Bernie Turansky and a cherished mother to Lorraine (Billy) and Brenda, as well as the late Paul. She was a loving grandmother to Celina and a second mother to MaryAnn (Chris), and was fondly regarded as a substitute grandmother to Adam and Connor.

Born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Monica was the eldest of 13 siblings. She moved to Ajax to begin her career as a nurse’s aide, where she met her future husband, Bernie. They married, and she settled in Whitby, where she lived the rest of her life. Known for her hard work and dedication, Monica helped run Turansky’s Grocery and Variety Store, a beloved gathering spot for many in Whitby. Many residents fondly remember Monica’s warm smile and the 1-cent candies she handed out.

Even into her 70s, Monica managed the family property, looked after tenants, and continued to be a vibrant part of her community. She was known for her intelligence, loyalty, love for dogs, and zest for life.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Mount Lawn Funeral Home, 21 Garrard Rd., Whitby, on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Edward Flaxman

August 31, 1932 - November 10, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Flaxman on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at the age of 92.

Edward was the beloved husband of the late Alice Flaxman. He leaves behind a loving family, including his children Debbie, Dale, and Dawn, as well as his cherished grandchildren Chris, Danielle, Teresa, Michael, Nicole, Stephen, and Jake. He was also an adored great-grandfather to Haley, Lucas, Dominic, Emma, Harvey, Cameron, Stella, and Brooke. Edward is predeceased by his siblings Barbara, Leonard, Jim, and Carol.

A visitation will be held at Mount Lawn Funeral Home on Monday, November 18, 2024, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The funeral service will follow on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the Mount Lawn Chapel, with a burial to follow at Mount Lawn Cemetery.

For those who wish, donations in memory of Edward may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Karen Ishbel Munce

December 6, 1938 - November 11, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Karen Ishbel Neil Munce, 85, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, following a long battle with diabetes on November 11, 2024. Karen leaves behind a loving family and a legacy that will be cherished forever.

Predeceased by her beloved husband of over 52 years, Harvey Edwin Munce (2012), her daughter Lori Munce Lepizzera (2015), her parents Alton Abbott Neil (1997) and Gladys Ishbel McEvoy Neil (1978), and her brother Lawrence Andrew McEvoy Neil (2012).

Karen is survived by her son, Michael (Teresa), and her daughter Susan (Joe Colacicco). She was a loving grandmother to Michael Jr. (Lindsey), Trevor (Melissa), Jacob, Nicholas, Calvin, and Lucas, and a cherished great-grandmother to Marissa, Maeve, and Lexi.

Karen was born in Toronto, Ontario, in 1938. She spent her childhood summers on Skeleton Lake, forming memories she would carry for life. After meeting Harvey in 1958, they married and later settled in Oshawa in 1972. Karen was dedicated to her family as a stay-at-home mom before working in various retail roles, managing a fabric store, and holding positions at Coles, Hunts Bakery, Eaton’s, and Sears.

Karen enjoyed time at the cottage, sewing, crocheting, reading, and sharing special moments with her grandsons and great-granddaughters.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 18, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Mount Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, with a service in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. and a reception to follow. Donations to Diabetes Canada in Karen’s name are appreciated.

Ainsworth (Fred) Josiah Ricketts

Peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 10, 2024. Fred was the cherished husband of Coseta (Cher) for 49 years and a devoted father to Sandra (Frank), Ingrid (Mark), and Adriana. He was a proud grandfather of Francesco (Dorothy), Brittania, and Taylor. Fred is survived by his sister and predeceased by his other siblings. He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews and will be fondly remembered by his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many other family and friends.

The family extends special thanks to Ontario Health At Home, ParaMed, and VHA for their compassionate support and care throughout the years.

If desired, donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated in Fred’s memory.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Helen Krajewski, who passed away peacefully on November 7th, 2024. Helen was a cherished member of our family and community, known for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering generosity.

Born on August 28th, 1943, in Austria, Helen was the daughter of Zofia and Stephen Kummar, both of whom preceded her in death. She grew up in England and moved to Canada in 1969, where she pursued a career in real estate and the automotive industry. Helen’s dedication to her family and her work left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.

Helen is survived by her daughters, Sabrina and Elizabeth; her grandson, Stephen; and her sister, Wanda (Andrzey), and brother, Joseph (Jeannie). She is predeceased by her granddaughter, Nicole. Helen will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews, Johanna (Kwame), Mark, Jackie (Lance), Jennifer (Mathew), and as a beloved great-aunt to Elijah, Ethan, Etienne, Charlotte, Lily, Chloe, Penny, and Zofia, who will forever cherish her memory. Helen's legacy of love, compassion, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew her.

A private funeral Mass will be held for the immediate family. Helen will be laid to rest at Mount Lawn Cemetery in Whitby, Ontario. In honour of her remarkable life, friends and family are invited to light a candle in her memory or make a donation to a charity of their choice.

It is with broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of Lorraine Dean on Wednesday, November 6th, 2024, at the age of 79.

Lorraine left us to reunite with her beloved husband, Ross Dean (pre-deceased). She is survived by her loving children Heidi (Scott) and Phil. Devoted grandmother of Bill (Amber), Brandi (Shaun), Sean (Sarah), and Ocean (David). Cherished great-grandmother of Elizabeth, Mason, Joshuah, Michael, Bennett, Sophia, Clay, and Logan.

Lorraine's family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to the wonderful staff of Lakeridge Health Oshawa Critical Care.

Nancy Carol Williams (née Kershaw) passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 62 years, David Wayne Williams. Cherished mother of Greg (Valerie) and Joanna (Ian). Proud grandmother of Mitchell, Briar, Aidan, and Cordelia. Nancy will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her extended family and friends.

Nancy was passionate about gardening and spent many weekends at the family trailer at Stoney Lake. She was also an adventurous traveler, having cruised to most continents alongside her husband and close friends, Bob and Pat Debosky.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Mount Lawn Funeral Home, 21 Garrard Rd., Whitby, on Sunday, November 17, 2024, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
