Pierre Lucien Melnik

Monday, January 27, 1953 - Wednesday, December 25, 2024

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Pierre Lucien Melnik, 71, of Newcastle, Ontario, on December 25, 2024, with close family by his side.

Pierre was the loving son of his late father Jan and late mother Rita, a caring brother to Bella (Wayne), Anna (Colin), Maria, and Liza. He was a devoted husband to the late Maria Melnik, beloved father to Tiffany (David) and Adam (Heather), and a proud grandfather to Emmett. Pierre will be greatly missed by his nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

Born in Haileybury, Ontario, Pierre was the second oldest of five children. He spent his early years in Cobalt and Bancroft before moving to Whitby as a young adult. Later, Pierre settled in Oshawa to raise his family before eventually residing in Newcastle. An avid hockey player in his youth, Pierre was also a dedicated employee of General Motors Oshawa Plant, where he worked for 37 years.

In retirement, Pierre pursued his passions, working as an extra in TV shows and movies, and immersing himself in the HAM radio community (VE3PLM). He loved the outdoors, spending time in his apple orchard and embarking on motorcycle adventures, often accompanied by his late wife and children. Above all, Pierre's greatest accomplishment was being a father. His humor, patience, and devotion left an indelible mark on his children, who will forever treasure the countless memories they shared.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Fairhaven Long-Term Care Home for their compassionate care and support during the past year.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Pierre’s life at Mount Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, 21 Garrard Road, Whitby, on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Fairhaven Long-Term Care Home (881 Dutton Road, Peterborough, ON, K9H 7S4) in Pierre’s memory would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Bring peace and comfort to us now
And keep our loved one near.
