ANDREWS, Glenn Douglas (Pup) Andrews  -

Ending his long journey with cancer on May 29, 2024, Glenn passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by family. Glenn was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Ruth Andrews of Whitby and his beloved dog Sparky.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife and best friend, Susan, his children Grace and Chris (Jen), his dog/partner-in-crime Jasper, his grandchildren Griffin and Jakob, his brothers Dave (Heather) and Allan (Terry), his many nieces and nephews as well as best friends Paul Keys, Rob Lovelock, Steve Reeson and so many others.

For the compassionate and excellent care given to Glenn, the family wishes to acknowledge and thank Dr. Andree Line Hollander (Bowmanville), Dr. Sylvia Ng (Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre), as well as the staff and volunteers at Oak Ridges Hospice of Durham.

Spending time with friends and family (or by himself) around the campfire at The Bus or at the lake; driving his '67 convertible Mustang in the sun; Mosport camping with the PSOD crew; Monday night darts with Pup's Team in the Newcastle Dart League; playing defense on the Hunter's Horn hockey team in Whitby and the INX team in the Oshawa Men's Hockey League -- Glenn loved being with people, being active and enjoying whatever life brought his way. His greatest gift was forming lasting friendships. He left a piece of his heart in every person he met; in doing so, he will be greatly missed and always with us.

Arrangements with MOUNT LAWN FUNERAL HOME .  A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Mark's United Church, 201 Centre St. S., Whitby, Ontario on June 27th at 1:00 p.m. followed by a fellowship gathering at the church. Private graveside interment at MOUNT LAWN CEMETERY (Whitby) will follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Oak Ridges Hospice of Durham or the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre.

In addition, the family would love to receive any photographs of Glenn as well as any special anecdotes or memories that could be privately shared.

ATTERSLEY, Ruth Anne Attersley   -  At King City Lodge Nursing Home, with her family by her side, passed on Thursday June 13th, 2024, at the age of 91 after a short battle with cancer.

Beloved mother of Michelle Sadecki, son-in-law Steve Sadecki and Steven Attersley.

Cherished grandmother to Ryan, Adam and Claire.

Beloved sister to Mary Jeffery, Jackie Erickson and Linda Woods.

Predeceased by sister Joyce Daly.

MERRILLES, Robert (Bob) Sinclair Merrilees  -

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Sinclair Merrilees – dedicated father, grandfather and friend. While we lost our most beloved dad, many have lost a friend and loved one in him.

Bob, 64, was surrounded by his three children, loved ones and family members on June 14, 2024, at Lakeridge Health, during his final moments as he went peacefully into paradise.

Son of William Merrilees and Annie Kilmartin, father to Jessica, Kyle and Brady Merrilees and grandfather to Caelan Ouellet and Chloe Merrilees.

Bob, a beacon of unwavering friendship and kindness, has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Visitation will be held at MOUNT LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 21 Garrard Road, Whitby on Sunday, June 23, 2024 from 2:00 – 4:00 & 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Monday, June 24, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until time of Funeral Service in the Chapel at 2:00 p.m.

Interment will follow at  MOUNT LAWN CEMETERY.

If desired, memorial donations to the Lakeridge Health Foundation – ICU would be appreciated by the family.

GIBBS, Douglas  -  Passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa in his 81st year.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife Carole (2022).

Doug is survived by his son Todd, grandchild Charlie, and his cherished dog Willow. Brother of Richard, John, Marie and the late Joyce.

Doug was a long-time employee of General Motors, and he enjoyed volunteering at the Oshawa Senior Centre.

He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 21st from 1:30p.m. until time of service in the chapel at 2:30p.m. at MOUNT LAWN FUNERAL HOME & CEMETERY, 21 Garrard Road, Whitby with a reception to follow.

GIBSON, Angela (LaMONT) Gibson  -

It is with great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our Mother on May 17, 2024.

She will be greatly missed by daughter Cindy Driscoll and son Robert Gibson (Shawna).

Proud Grandmother of Brittany Ojala (Nikolai), Curtis Gibson, Quinten Bain and Kala Bain.

Angela is survived by her siblings Marlene Kuzenko (Ron), Shelley Farrow (Doug) and extended family. Angela leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Her spirit and strength and enduring love will forever be in our hearts. She will be deeply missed by all that were fortunate to know her.

February 12, 1925 - April 29, 2024.

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of beloved Gene, at the Sunnybrook Veterans Center in Toronto.

Gene served his country honorably as a member of the Canadian Air Force in World War II, demonstrating unwavering dedication to duty. After the war, he worked at Bell Telephone Company of Canada until his retirement in 1984.

Eugene’s commitment extended beyond family and career. For 43 years, he was a steadfast member of the Masonic fraternity. He held numerous esteemed positions including Worshipful Master of both Birch Cliff Lodge (1990) and Zeredatha Lodge (1994), and Grand Registrar of the Province of Ontario for the Grand Lodge of Canada (2011).

Also, he held distinguished positions as a member of Ramses Shriners Oshawa and District Club and the Philalethes Society. His joy stemmed from the camaraderie and mentorship he shared with his fellow brothers. His tireless commitment focused on fostering fellowship, personal growth, and service to others, all with the aim of making a positive impact on society.

Gene’s exuberant spirit was evident in his response to inquiries about his well-being: a resounding “150%!” His witty one-liners brought laughter to everyone, and his infectious positivity left an indelible mark on all who crossed his path. Those fortunate enough to know him will deeply miss him.

He is survived by his sister JoAnne, stepchildren Robert and Carolyn, daughter Jan, and sons-in-law Greg, Dan, and Dennis. Gene was a grandfather and great-grandfather to many, including Scott (wife Kerri), Courtney, Taylor, Benjamin, and Oliver. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Audrey de Beaupre, stepdaughter Linda, sons Frank and Michael, daughter Marie Rosen, siblings Paul, Remi, Marie and Richard, and parents Louise and Paul. Gene will be dearly missed by numerous nieces and nephews, especially Debbie, Diane, and Remi, as well as extended family, friends and co-workers.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre for their compassionate care during Gene’s stay.

In honoring Gene’s memory, let us continue his legacy of service and fellowship.

May his light shine brightly in our hearts as we carry forward his dedication to others.

A Celebration of Gene’s Life will be held on Thursday, June 20th from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at MOUNT LAWN FUNERAL HOME & CEMETERY, 21 Garrard Road, Whitby, Ontario. Family and friends are invited to come and share memories and stories.

HEWETT, Anita Teresa Hewett  -  It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anita Teresa Hewett.

Suddenly and surrounded by all her family on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at the age of 71.

Born in Barrie, Ontario on February 26, 1953. Daughter of Wilson and Teresa Balcom.

Anita was the beloved wife of Glen Hewett for 44 years. Loving mother of her two children, Lauren (Tim Williams) and Kerry. Anita will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Olivia and Emily Williams.

Dear sister of Peter (Rose), Ron (Mary Ann), Greg (Sandy), Annette (Kevin) and late brother David. Fondly remembered by her sister-in-law Wendy (Jim Barney). Anita will be remembered by all of her nieces and nephews.

Anyone who knew Anita, knew that her greatest love was her family. Anita truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. Her gentle spirit and warm knowing smile left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Visitation will be held at Mount Lawn Funeral Home, 21 Garrard Rd. Whitby, on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 11 a.m. with a Memorial Service to follow at 12 p.m.

She will be laid to rest at   MOUNT LAWN CEMETERY .
