Erica Hilda Helena Bouhénic

April 1, 1942 - January 9, 2025

Erica Hilda Helena Bouhénic of Toronto/Orono, ON, passed away peacefully at home on January 9, 2025, at the age of 82.

She was born on April 1, 1942, to Hermance and Jan Willem Buykes in Stratford, ON. Erica attended the University of Toronto and pursued a career as a High School English Teacher.

During a vacation in Paris, France, she met her beloved husband, Jean-Claude. Together, they had one daughter, Dr. Gabrielle (Alex) Ledger, and two cherished granddaughters, Amelia and Briar.

Erica’s passions included literature, nature, animals, gardening, snorkeling, sailing, and spending time with her dear friends, Elin and Margaret. She treasured the years spent at Glendon College, where Jean-Claude served as Dean of Students, as well as their sabbaticals in the South of France.

She is survived by her older brother Jack Buykes, niece Heidi (Howard) Hilderbrand, and nephew Jeff (Kim) Buykes. She was predeceased by her parents and brother John Buykes.

Erica, a lifelong philosopher and advocate for euthanasia, was sadly unable to experience the peaceful passing she wished for due to systemic challenges in healthcare. Her family is deeply grateful to her ICU nurse Rachel and her friend Dr. Adriana Palencar for their compassionate care.

Grace Bianco

November 13, 1946 - January 7, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Grace Bianco. Grace passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, at the age of 78 at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous and long battle with cancer. Grace was a devoted wife, mother, nonna, sister, and friend, known for her warmth, kindness, and selfless nature. Beloved wife of Vince, loving mother of Tony (Rosa), Frank (Laura), and Angela, and dear nonna of her cherished grandchildren Vincent, Zachary, and Ava. She was the dear sister of Tony (Annetta) and Annette (Vittorio). Grace will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Grace found joy in giving, whether through her delicious cooking or the nurturing care she poured into her beautiful garden. Her love for her family was evident in everything she did, and her memory will live on through the many lives she touched.

According to her wishes, cremation has taken place, and no public service will be held at this time.

Ruby Dorothy McDonnell

January 10, 1936 - January 5, 2025

Ruby Dorothy McDonnell passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on Sunday, January 5, 2025, just five days short of her 89th birthday. She will be deeply missed by her beloved husband, Kevin; her children Cathy (Doug) and Peter (Cindy); and her five wonderful grandchildren, Patrick (Lindsay), Rachel (Rick), Elizabeth, Aidan, and Rory. Ruby was a proud great-grandmother to Henry, Luca, Hattie, Austin, and Sullivan, and a great friend to many.

Ruby immigrated to Canada from England in 1956, where she met Kevin, her one true love, at a church dance in Toronto. They married in 1958 and shared a beautiful life together. Ruby loved to read, garden, laugh, sing, and dance. She spent her final years at Fosterbrook Nursing Home in Newcastle, where her radiant smile and warm personality endeared her to the wonderful staff.

Ruby will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. Her beautiful heart will be remembered every day.

Please join us in celebrating Ruby’s life with a Memorial Service at Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, 53 Division Street, Bowmanville, on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, refreshments and memories will be shared with the family at the funeral home.

Dorothy Elizabeth Hilton (Nee Collis)

May 17, 1939 - January 7, 2025

Dorothy Elizabeth Hilton passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, after a long battle with dementia. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bill, and will be deeply missed by her loving daughters Tammy and Tracy (Brian). Dorothy was a devoted Nanny to Joshua, Kevin, Daniel, Courtney, and Brynn (Kevin), and a proud great-grandmother to Sidney, Ruby, Lily, Autumn, and one more on the way. She was a cherished sister to Joyce and Peggy and predeceased by siblings Jewel, Russell, Leonard, Norman, Shirley, Robert, June, and Muriel. Dorothy was also a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews and an “Honorary Nanny” to many extended family members.

She will be remembered fondly by a multitude of family and friends.

Visitation:
Visitation will be held at Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, 53 Division St., Bowmanville, on Monday, January 13th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral Service:
A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday, January 14th at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Bowmanville Cemetery.

Judith Lilian Wenman

April 19, 1940 - January 3, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Judith "Judy" Lilian Wenman. Born in London, England, Judy came to Canada in the 1970s. She is survived by her daughter, Sara, and son-in-law, Bob.

Judy was a longtime employee of Bell Canada and enjoyed her retirement years, especially as a 15-year resident of Wilmot Creek. She loved participating in Aquafit and ladies' darts and cherished the friendships she built within the community.

Cynthia Agnes Barbara Henry

September 15, 1925 - January 2, 2025

Cynthia Agnes Barbara Henry passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on January 2, 2025, at the remarkable age of 99 years. Beloved wife of the late Raymond Henry, Cynthia was a devoted stepmother to Nancy Henry, the late Sharon (Brian) Bugg, the late Jerry (Wendy) Henri, the late Wayne Henry, Jennifer Pelletier, and Robert Johnson. She was a dear aunt to Robert Stone, Christopher Stone, Cedric MacLeod, and Wendy Nobi.

Cynthia cherished her role as grandmother to Michelle Blackwell, Leslie Bugg, Rachel Henri, Wayne Henri, Linda-Mai Henri, and Sharon Parks, and as great-grandmother to Danielle Blackwell, Amanda Blackwell, Jessica Blackwell-Marshall, and Adele Bugg. She was also a proud great-great-grandmother to Atticus Parks, Caleb Parks, Jackson Blackwell, Abigail Blackwell, and McKinley Blackwell-Marshall.

Remembered as a classy lady with a sweet smile, loving patience, and a gentle soul, Cynthia brought endless kindness to all who knew her.

Paul James Melanson

December 12, 1964 - December 31, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Paul Melanson on December 31, 2024, at the age of 60. Beloved husband of Jeannie Ferguson, Paul was a loving father to Racheal (Tyler) and Tyler (Cassidy). He was a proud grandfather to Teagan, Sophia, Bentley, Josie, and his step-grandchildren Chloe and Aubrey. He also leaves behind his companion, Doreen.

Paul’s warmth, love, and dedication to his family will be forever remembered by those who knew him. His legacy of kindness and devotion will live on through his loved ones.

Philip Gregory Watson

January 17, 1940 – January 1, 2025

In loving memory of Mr. Philip Gregory Watson, who passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, at the age of 84. Beloved husband of the late Karen Watson, Philip was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

Philip is lovingly remembered by his children Linda (Craig) Hargreaves and Greg (Cindy) Watson. He was a proud and caring grandfather to Evan (Ashley), Austin (Meagan), Bryce, Brooke, and Issy, and a cherished great-grandfather to Cash, Oakley, Presley, and Bodhe. Philip will also be deeply missed by his dear sister Charlene Watson, brother-in-law Robert Wilson (Janet), and his close friend Cathy Sweezie.

Cremation has taken place, and a graveside ceremony will be held at a later date to honor Philip’s life and legacy.

Doris Edna Audrey Fletcher

November 10, 1932 – December 30, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Doris Edna Audrey Fletcher, known as Audrey, on December 30, 2024, at Extendicare Port Hope at the age of 92. Born on November 10, 1932, in Bowmanville, Ontario, to Al and Vie Fletcher (née Dilling), Audrey was one of five children.

Predeceased by her life partner Doug Wiseman, brothers Ken (Helen) and Charlie (Teresa) Fletcher, and her dearest sister Jean (James) Firth. Audrey leaves behind her cherished sister Lorna Tremble and her husband John of San Diego, California. She will also be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews, including Terry McGill (née Firth) and her husband Derrick; Tyler and Jernay Tremble and family; Hayley Tremble and family; and the late Todd Tremble; as well as Barry Fletcher of Florida and family. Audrey’s memory will also be fondly cherished by her many great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Audrey dedicated over 30 years to General Motors and was known for her love of human connection. She hosted countless card nights and gatherings filled with joy and laughter. She found peace in life’s simple pleasures, from the warmth of the Florida sun to summers at her trailers in Orono and Picton. She cherished her community, friendships, and the art of making holidays extra special with beautifully wrapped gifts.

A heartfelt thank you to Cheryl and the caring staff at Extendicare Port Hope for their compassionate care in Audrey’s final years.

At Audrey’s request, no visitation or funeral will be held. Cremation has taken place, and she will be interred at Bowmanville Cemetery alongside her family and Doug. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Memory Loss Foundation.

Levi William Powell

March 23, 2022 – December 27, 2024

With deep sadness and endless love, Sean and Meagan Powell (née Knowlton) announce the peaceful passing of their beloved son, Levi William Powell, on December 27, 2024. Levi’s short but precious time with us was filled with joy, laughter, and boundless love, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.

Levi was the cherished grandson of Trevor and Connie Powell (Calgary) and Peter and Susan Knowlton. He was also the treasured great-grandson of Bruce Down. Levi is now at peace, reunited with his loving great-grandmas Joan Down and Marguerite Haynes, who adored him deeply.

Levi’s sweet smile and joyful giggles will forever be remembered by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and his dedicated caregiver, Sara Petersen.

Funeral Details:

A service to honor Levi’s life will be held at Ebenezer United Church in Courtice, ON, on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 1:00 PM.
