Verna Maude Grills Western peacefully passed away on March 29, 2025, joining her beloved husband Stewart (58 years). She leaves behind her children, Sharon (late David), Murray (Lynette), Marilyn (David Michael), and Ken (Margaret), who will cherish her forever.
Verna was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She adored her twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, providing them with endless smiles, happiness, and hugs. Verna was also blessed with two great-great-grandchildren.
In her youth, Verna enlisted in the army during WWII and later married Stewart before leaving the service. She supported her local church, the UCW, and various community projects throughout her life. Verna had many lifelong friends, and she had a special bond with her sister Dorothy, the only sibling still living.
A service to celebrate Verna’s life will be held at the Valentia Community Centre on Sunday, April 13th, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., with a light reception to follow. Donations to the Valentia Community Centre would be appreciated and can be made by cheque through the funeral home.

John David McPhail passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto on December 26, 2024, after a short illness. He was the son of the late Clarence and Ruth McPhail. Beloved father to Melanie (Levi) and Keith, cherished grandfather of Laura (Ryan), Jill, Ben, Braelyn, Samuel, Dalton, Hannah, and Emma, and loving great-grandfather of Isla, Elowyn, Finley, Elias, Jack, and Leila.
John was a devoted brother to Anne McPhail, Carol Faye Duggan (William), and James McPhail. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no formal service.
Winifred "Winnie" Pooley passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Ross Memorial Hospital on December 30, 2024, at the age of 87. Beloved wife of the late William Pooley and loving mother of William (Alison). She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
In keeping with Winnie’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no formal service. Her memory will forever be cherished by those whose lives she touched with her kindness and love.

Doreen Florence Milena Budd Borrow passed away peacefully at Ross Memorial Hospital on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the age of 94. Doreen, born in Waubaushene, was the only child of Florence and Andrew Borrow. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 74 years, Milton (2022), and is survived by her loving children, Donna Brethour (the late Ross) and John Budd (the late Donna).
Cherished grandmother to Laura Nolte (Mike), Michelle Thomas (Lee), and A.J. Budd (Keirnan). Proud great-grandmother of Joscelin, Carter, and the late Marcus. Doreen and Milton shared a deep passion for raising and showing draft ponies, dedicating 18 joyful years to the activity. They also raised their family on Milton’s family farm, where they created lasting memories.
A spring interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Lindsay, on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., coinciding with the anniversary of Milton’s burial. If desired, memorial donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
